[tw] Re: Simple Javascript insertion in tiddlers (text/vnd.tiddlywiki)

2017-03-04 Thread Jed Carty
I probably didn't say that very clearly, you can open a wiki and add
javascript to it, but the javascript won't take affect until after the wiki
has been saved and reloaded with the new content. And then it has to be
either in a tiddler tagged with $:/tags/RawMarkup, inside a properly made
javascript macro or inside a widget.

But the saving and reloading has to happen before any javascript charges
take affect. I think that this can be changed but it generally isn't
recommended.

[tw] Re: [TW5] Plugin update: Autosave for EditorCounter – Never lose hours of work again

2017-03-04 Thread David Szego
Hey Thomas, that Clipboard plugin is a must-have!!

I'm going to give the EditorCounter a try ... I'm always weary of
autosaving when there's code involved (autosave your bugs!) but it'll be
very useful for regular text Tiddlers. Is there an easy way of selecting
tags that turn off autosave?

And I love the to-do plugin you've got. I don't yet understand all the
buttons, but it's a great start for a very nice clean to-do-list layout.
Great UI in the works.

[tw] Tips for using TiddlyWiki to publish static htmls

2017-03-04 Thread David Gifford
Hi all

On Friday morning I woke up with energy for the first time in a couple
weeks, at least, and had several epiphanies, most of which had to do with
TiddlyWiki. I then went to work yesterday (Fri) and today (Sat) and came up
with an easier way to use TiddlyWiki to publish a large wiki-like web of
static htmls. Here are a couple things I learned along the way:

*1. Flipping title field and showname field*

The thought occurred to me that I could add another field to my tiddlers,
which I called showname. I tagged it $:/tags/ViewTemplate, and pasted it
high up in the list field of $:/tags/ViewTemplate. Then I removed the
$:/tags/ViewTemplate tag from $:/core/ui/ViewTemplate/title.

What does this do? In edit mode, I use the title field to paste the file
name for the static html to be produced from this tiddler. That way when I
export to static html, the filename is what shows up in the prompt that
appears to ask me where to save the file, so I don't need to go back and
rename the saved file. I use the showname field for the title I want the
user to see when viewing the static (and for me when viewing the tiddler in
the standalone TW). The added advantage to this is that if I change the
tiddler 'title', I don't need to change all the links in other tiddlers
that link to this file. They still link to the filename in the title field.

*2. Toggling edit stylesheet and publish stylesheet*

One thing that has happened to me in the past is that when creating a
tiddlywiki for publishing that is more like a true wiki, with lots of
hyperlinks, is that I find it hard to mark my progress - In tiddler A want
to add links to tiddler B that doesn't exist yet, but I am not ready to
actually create tiddler B and add content. I just want to focus on tiddler
A.

So I created two almost identical stylesheets. The editing stylesheet shows
yellow highlights I put around unfinished items, shows dark orange text I
use to leave myself notes about what to do next, what sources to
investigate, etc, and shows missing links in gray. The publishing
stylesheet has a 'display none' CSS for the highlights and my orange notes,
and displays missing links as the same color as the body text.

*3. Buttons for links*

Since the links are to filenames, I need pretty links for everything. So I
created buttons, one to wrap filenames with a pretty external link to a
file in the same folder (I use one folder per topic / TW file), and another
button for pretty external links to files in a different folder.

*4. Display macro*

I thought the display macro would not work with static html, but it works
great, so I use it to condense longer indexes of links. Very nice tool.

I am using these statics at our main site (http://www.giffmex.org) and at a
new site I am experimenting with for Spanish materials at
http://articulos.giffmex.org.

This system is pretty fast, and basically will turn my articulos site into
a large wiki like site of interlocking statics, without needing to know
node.js or github. (maybe I should call it giffipedia...)

Just wanted to float these ideas around in case they help anyone who might
also be using or wanting to use TW for static site generation, but who
don't want to learn node.js and Github.

Blessings

Dave

Hey Mat, thanks for the compliment! No "competition"... we *inspire* each
other. That's *cooperation*.

I can't get yours to work on Firefox for Mac. Hovering shows the eye and
the pencil, but trying to move the mouse onto it makes it disappear, so you
always "miss" it.

Editing the CSS to force visible, just to try it, screws up what the clicks
are supposed to do.

I regularly backup my wiki so I'd be interested to know if this is at all
hackable. I'm also somewhat confused about why we have javascript macros
then, and what the difference is there. Though at this point I should
probably study the code a lot more so I know what I'm talking about. I'll

[tw] Re: Simple Javascript insertion in tiddlers (text/vnd.tiddlywiki)

2017-03-04 Thread Ton Gerner
Hi Matt,

It *does* work although not in a very practical way.
You *cannot* test it at http://tiddlywiki.com/ since you need to
save/reload. The tag $:/tags/RawMarkup let the script be put in the head
section of TW; therefore it only works after save/reload. Thereafter the
embedded
'reddit' will be shown at the end of the story river (if you close all
tiddlers, it will shift to the top).
But it is shown over the full width, so it is not very practical.

Cheers,

Ton

Hi Ton,

Thank you, but I don't think the $:/tags/RawMarkup method works. I tried
on both mine and tiddlywiki.com and tried both leaving the type blank and
setting it to text/vnd.tiddlywiki. Also, I wasn't sure if you meant to do
this with Tobias' plugin, but I tried that and it still didn't work.

[tw] TWShell

2017-03-04 Thread oleghbond

Development is a process. Development of Tiddlywiki - is a process too. By
itself, any process is purposeless - it is just a manifestation of specific
laws under certain boundary and initial conditions. Similarly, with the
development of Tiddlywiki - indeed it is the exciting saga for the sake of
self-improvement. But really that is not a goal. That is a process.

So, now about specific things. No doubt Tiddlywiki is an outstanding tool
for Web content creating. There were said a lot about that. It would be
better once to touch it, to come to the same conclusion independently.

However, with all the advantages Tiddlywiki does not lack shortcomings,
which significantly slow down its wider use.

Main "stumble stones" in Tiddlywiki use, in my humble opinion, is in the
entry resistance of "zero" users (newcomers) who need a tool with a
convincing set of capabilities for organization a personal space as well as
cooperation in the global network, but who are of little interest to study
how it is devised inside.

*Reasons*

More specifically these "stumble stones" could be described as follow:

   - Some inconvenience of use:
  1. Multi-step installation procedure, especially when one runs
multiuser tiddlywiki in git-network under Node.js + git + tortoisegit
   + githab / gitlab.
  2. Control elements for the whole (git-network based) system are not
consolidated, i.e. dispersed over various separate software components.
   - Intrinsic scalability limits:
  1. A sole tiddlywiki is pretty closed document - all the benefits of
internal tiddler use: filtering, transclusion, powerful search, links
etc.
are not applicable to external tiddlers.
  2. For scalability one tiddlywiki needs permanent links to other
(i.e. external) tiddlywikis. Permanent external links are usually
achieved
by placing a tiddlywiki or its generated static pages under a permanent
  domain name.
  3. But even the latter is not completely solve the issue: usually a
  tiddlywiki itself is quite heavy file from several upto several dozen MB;
also intrinsic API for external tiddlywiki data manipulation is absent
(at
least for my knowledge); generated by Tiddlywiki static pages are
helpless
  in this context as well.
  4. Somewhat aside, but equally important for scalability is creating
a basic mechanism for multilingual synchronization of several tiddlywikis.

*Primary task list*

Based on the aforesaid here I formulated a primary task list. It is just my
personal vision. So everyone is free to add own issues, however, keeping in
mind the two main priorities:

   1. ease of installation and management, and
   2. scalability as a platform for multiuser web collaboration.

So the primary task list looks like:

   1. A single installer is required for all the necessary starting
components and settings, including: Node.js, tiddlywiki, git, tortoisegit
(if
necessary), etc. for main operational systems.
   2. A shell for multiple tiddlywikis management is required (e.g. a type
   of TiddlyDesktopQ extension).
Among other things, the shell must be capable of:
  - Interoperable in respect of variety of operating systems and
  browsers;
  - Locally create, delete, move, etc. tiddlywikis under node.js;
  - Run a separate tiddlywiki under node.js from a file explorer of a
given operating system through, for example, double click or a context
menu;
  - Carry out a minimum required set of operations to synchronize local
and global repos, including: commit, push, pull, diff, etc.
  - Minimum required control over static pages publishing on Githab /
  Gitlab Pages;
   3. Providing a type of mediawiki interwiki
    syntax for links to
external tiddlywikis. For example, a reference to a tiddler from another
tiddlywiki may have a look like: [[anotherTW:Interesting staff]].
Realization of certain interwiki web services also is possible.
   4. Organizational Page

on Githab / Gitlab Pages is a root page for a number of other pages of
projects or user groups under this root page. API for automated collection
of information about underlying pages for the organizational page is
   required for further use.

I guess the competition from David Szego inspired me ;-) ...but what really
made me pick it up was Josiahs valuable suggestion above:

Very good idea!

So, delete the old version and try out the new one. It is IMO a big

[tw] [TW5] Custom field with wikitext and editor

2017-03-04 Thread Stéphane Delaye
Hello,

I'm using edit text in a template to store some data in a tiddle custom
field like this
<$edit-text field="content" tag="textarea" size=500 />
Is it possible to have this field the same behavior as "text" core field.
I mean it's possible to use wikitext (links with other tiddles) and have
the field editor.
For instance, i can use [[tidlerIwant]] in the "content' field to display
it.
Thanks
Stephane

PS: I don't use "text" core field because I need to go in edit mode to edit
the content.

Thanks

[tw] [TW5] Plugin update: Autosave for EditorCounter – Never lose hours of work again

2017-03-04 Thread Thomas Elmiger
Hi all

Yesterday I lost about one hour’s work when my computer crashed – I had
forgotten to save my wiki and after a restart the tiddler I had open in
edit mode was gone. – Now I lost another few hours of my life to make sure
this never happens again!

A new feature is available in my EditorCounter plugin

(version 0.6.1):

Autosave

Autosave will try to save your wiki in the background after adding or
removing 200 characters. You can change this value in the settings.

Please activate the new feature in the plugins’ settings and give it a try.

*As always: remember to back up your wikis.*

And as always you can find my plugins here:
http://tid.li/tw5/plugins.html#Get%20More%20Plugins – feedback ist highly
appreciated.

Stay safe!

Thomas

[tw] Re: Has anyone made a mechanism for faster tagging?

2017-03-04 Thread Thomas Elmiger
Hi Stefi

Glad you like my stuff!

How can I keep up to date with bug fixes and enhancements for it? Do you
> have a notification list or blog or some such?

Good question: Until now I posted hints to updates in this group here. I am
not quite up-to-date, but I think I have heard about upcoming RSS features
in the next TW version 5.1.14 – would RSS be a preferred channel for you?

All the best!
Thomas
