Hi Tony!
Recently you have made a query on saving wiki folder and single file wiki!
It worth for future use to publish the result of this query!

It seems Tiddlywiki has got many solutions to overcome the saving barrier.

Twexe can be the means not the end solution.

[tw5] Re: Easy local saving with WebDav

2019-12-16 Thread TonyM
Folks

Like other simple install and config tw server solutions there is room to
develop an install script even a setup and config process. You could generate a
config file for the webdav solution for private or lan use, We can do this
easily if tiddlywiki has full local file access, but then if you are setting up
a server to access your tiddlywiki you possibly do not have this. We seem slow
close yet so far.

This makes me ask if the recently revisited twexe could have an embedded wiki
that helps manage the installation and configuration of this webdav server,
perhaps even launch it. You could even test if its the static ip address your
lan issues and if not launch a local only config for the coffee shop.

The idea would be you install an os specific twexe which can guide the setup
and options of the webdav including provide an index to wikis created and saved
in the webdav folders. Access to online editions etc

If we can hand hold the whole way and design a smart wiki with design Choices
config s etc we can add to over time with lessons learned we could make tiddly
wiki adoption much easier.

Your use is fine if these are only used in non system tiddlers and my reply
related to when someone wanted them to be tags, I thought they would be better
in a custom list field than tags and searchable. The gentags plugin would allow
them to be used in filters other than search as well.

Hi all,

I just came across this fascinating project on hacker
news, https://fraidyc.at. I'm no longer a regular here so you might already
know about it, apologies if that is the case.

It's a browser extension that tracks updates from multiple social feeds and
integrates them in a 'calm' dashboard. I bring it to your attention because
it purports to also track changes in live tiddlywikis. Very cool! If you
watch the intro video, you will see a couple of wikis shown. Always fun to
see tw out in the wild, still waiting for the day everyone realises what
they're missing.

I would prefer to have such hash tags added to a custom list field on the
tiddler it was found in. Adding it to tags not only potentially overuse tags
but looses information unless you keep the leading #

I recently suggested such a field called keywords which is added to the default
search mechanisium however unlike the default it also searches system tiddlers,
also searching and returning the caption on the system tiddler if available.

This idea would in addition to globalizing keywords would allow system tiddlers
like the tag manager to publish a user friendly name without the system prefix
that users can locate with a standard search. Sometimes we do not want to hide
a system tiddler.

I think you may use an independent hash-tags field in a similar manner to my
proposed keywords field only that on tiddler save #word gets saved as word in
the hash-tags field.

I thought I posted a reply on this but its not here.

Marks method can be extended a number of ways. Duplicating and editing the
excise button related tiddlers to use the alternate transclusion.

Add-in a global settings with a local override that either displays a link, the
title of the transclusion tiddler, the transclusion, edit, copy buttons or a
combination there of, sould help improve excising workflow.

Hi Mohammad,

On at least some WebDav installations, the modification date of the file is
not maintained in Windows. This makes synchronization somewhat unreliable.

I'm curious, if you're running Windows, whether the modification date is
being set correctly after changes.

I use two small WebDav servers for saving, one for my Mac and one
for my Windows devices. Both are free and have security features build
 in
 for access.

 1. Windows

Software can be found at https://github.com/hacdias/webdav/

See readme for all options. For quick testing make a configuration
file called "webdav.yaml" and add the following lines:

 scope: .
 modify: true
 address: 0.0.0.0
 port: 8080
 tls: false
 cert: cert.pem
 key: key.pem
 users:
   - username: admin
 password: admin

Put your wiki in the same directory as the program (just for the
 test)
Start with command: "webdav -c webdav.yaml" and go to
http://localhost:8080/yourwiki.html in your browser and login with
"admin" and "admin" (or with the credentials you used in your
 configuration
 file).

 2. Mac

Go to the Mac App store and search for "WebDavNav Server". It is
very easy to setup. Let me know if you encounter any problems.

I have used both tools for 6 months now on a daily basis and never
 had any problems.

 Best regards,

 Joost

Totally agree. The point I was getting at was that it is often not
necessary to proliferate tags to IDENTIFY a Tiddler's scope through a

And that was my point. The very power of Tags in TW is superb -- when
you need that -- in 90% of my cases I don't. A simple literal #hashtag

But... you can do things with tags other than "searching"... like:

 1) generating lists using filter="[tag[foo]]"
 2) navigating to tag-related items by using a tag pill
 3) customize the ViewTemplate with conditional elements based on tags

Sure, you *could* do (1), and maybe (3) using
filter="[search:text[#foo]]", but is that the best approach?

On hastags:
Ive always thought it would be really helpful to make use of the "On Save"
action of tiddlers to employ a hashtag mechanism. If its enabled, when a
user saves a tiddler the contents are scanned for hashtags and added as
tags (according to pre-specified well defined rules, just like tiddler
tittles). Also, any hashtags currently in the tag field that are not
present in the text, can also be removed (this could be another option to
enable this).

Upon inspection the (sidebar) Recent tab ($:/core/ui/SideBar/Recent) and
the More > Recent tab ($:/core/ui/MoreSideBar/Recent) are different
tiddlers (and with different tags $:/tags/SideBar & $:/tags/MoreSideBar)
but contain the same code:

<$macrocall $name="timeline"
format={{$:/language/RecentChanges/DateFormat}}/>

It looks like $:/core/ui/SideBar/Recent is in the list of overridden shadow
tiddlers (at least I see it in your picture).
If that is the case, just delete $:/core/ui/SideBar/Recent and the original
shadow tiddler will be active again.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Ton

Ciao Eric

Totally agree. The point I was getting at was that it is often not
necessary to proliferate tags to IDENTIFY a Tiddler's scope through a
#hashtag.

And that was my point. The very power of Tags in TW is superb -- when you
need that -- in 90% of my cases I don't. A simple literal #hashtag will do
the job!

Best wishes

[tw5] Re: Easy local saving with WebDav

2019-12-16 Thread Joost

People might find your webdav server with some scanning tools.. Security
you could consider:

For the software:

- Enable TLS (see readme)
- Use strong credentials/encyption (see readme)

Additional security you could consider:

- Only allow localhost for your device in your firewall or security tooling
- Consider using a VPN at the coffee shop ;-)

I mean when you open localhost:8080 in browser have a landing page to
select a
link to open a wiki. Right now I have to type each wiki in address bar like

[tw5] Re: Using Fields: Pros and Cons

2019-12-16 Thread TiddlyTweeter
Ciao Mark

Yeah. You are right in that "#" in TW has a meaning it doesn't everywhere.
I do switch it off when its a first character in a Tiddler line when I need
to.

My hashtaggery comes because of its *very wide use in social networks* like
Twitter & Telegram where I use it constantly.

But, I think, my key point was that the TEXT field can itself contain a
Tiddler's own categorisation.

The proliferation of fields is adjunctive. And sometìmes wonder if they are
sometimes redundant?

Thoughts in process

But... you can do things with tags other than "searching"... like:

1) generating lists using filter="[tag[foo]]"
2) navigating to tag-related items by using a tag pill
3) customize the ViewTemplate with conditional elements based on tags

Sure, you *could* do (1), and maybe (3) using filter="[search:text[#foo]]",
but is that the best approach?

I hope sharing this info will help those who are looking for easy
saving with a small system footprint and storage.

I use two small WebDav servers for saving, one for my Mac and one for
my Windows devices. Both are free and have security features build in for
 access.

 1. Windows

Software can be found at https://github.com/hacdias/webdav/

See readme for all options. For quick testing make a configuration file
called "webdav.yaml" and add the following lines:

 scope: .
 modify: true
 address: 0.0.0.0
 port: 8080
 tls: false
 cert: cert.pem
 key: key.pem
 users:
   - username: admin
 password: admin

Put your wiki in the same directory as the program (just for the test)
Start with command: "webdav -c webdav.yaml" and go to
http://localhost:8080/yourwiki.html in your browser and login with
"admin" and "admin" (or with the credentials you used in your
 configuration
 file).

 2. Mac

Go to the Mac App store and search for "WebDavNav Server". It is very
easy to setup. Let me know if you encounter any problems.

I have used both tools for 6 months now on a daily basis and never had
 any problems.

 Best regards,

 Joost

But you have to remember that the hash exists, and exactly how you spelled
it, preferably including capitalization.

You only have to look at the tag list for GG to see how easily that can go
off the wheels.

Also, the tag then becomes embedded in the text, which might mess with
presentation. Text might be tagged with terms (#economic-justice
#eschatology) that don't actually occur in the text.

It is an interesting question. I have another question too.

* Are we making best use of the TEXT field?*

For instance, rather than add tags in the tag field, I often add hashtags

Searching for those in the text field is just as accurate as if they were

[tw5] Combind two transcluded ToCs with no vertical space

2019-12-16 Thread DemoniWaari
I have two different ToCs in my sidebar, one for Journal entried (reversed
creation sorting) and the rest are sorted by title. I have combined them by
just transcluding both {{TableOfContents-Journal}}{{TableOfContents}} but
there is an annoying vertical space in between the two. I think that
TiddlyWiki thinks there should be a new paragraph in between them but I'd
like to seamlessly combine the two.

Tried googling a little but was not able to find anything on how to combine
them well. Can someone help?

2019-12-16 Thread Mohammad
Hi Josiah,

It is totally portable, put it on your thumb drive and fire up just by
running the startServer.cmd as was explained in previous posts.

You can give access to several folders, but note to use the relative path
for total portability!

If you decide to do this TW you might want to add a version control system

Could you use this approach Portably?
What I mean is, does this system require you install something on the PC at
a fixed address?
Or could you install it on a usb-stick too?

Just wondering

2019-12-16 Thread TiddlyTweeter
It is an interesting issue.

What one wants is the "easiest route". Give me A BUTTON, always.

The itty.bitty thing goes through a server. It is a recomposition to HTML
of a decomposition and concatenation of bits.
Basically it is a compacted page of all elements present in render.

I am SURE we can do that.

Ciao Steve

You can include IN email TW HTML quite easily. At the moment on the
pre-release version, in editor, includes a "Raw HTML" preview. You just
copy the code from that.

To make is sweetly neat you need a browser add in like "
https://markdown-here.com/; that will convert a css styleset to be inline.
Email can only use "inline" CSS.

Easy Local Saving with WebDav
Mohammad 16th December 2019
at 2:59pm
solution
*Ref*: Joost

*Keywords*: saving single-file webdav

The hacdias/webdav is a simple Go
WebDAV server. It can be used to save Tiddlywiki single html file using any
web browser (firefox, chrome, edge) even old browser like IE.

The webdav command line interface is really easy to use so you can easily
create a WebDAV server for your own user.
How to use

   1. Simply download the suitable executable from
   https://github.com/hacdias/webdav/releases
  - for example for Windows 64bit downlaod windows-amd64-webdav.zip
   2. Unzip the file in the above step in your folder of choice
  - For demonstration purpose, C:\TW\Webdav is used here. This folder
  called *webdav root folder*.
   3. Create a folder in the root of webdav to put your wiki files there
  - In this demo it is C:\TW\Webdav\wikis
  - Copy some wiki files to wiki folder. For demo purpose here test.html
has
  been put in this folder
   4. Create a configuration file in webdav root folder to setup the server
   as you like.
  - For demonstration purpose C:\TW\Webdav\webday.ymal is used here
  which is contains

  modify: true
  address: 127.0.0.1
  port: 8080
  tls: false
  cert: cert.pem
  key: key.pem
  users:
- username: admin
  password: admin
  scope: ./wikis

  5. Create a shell script as below to fire up your server.
  - For demonstration it is called here C:\TW\Webdav\startServer.cmd
containing
  the below script

  REM Start WebDav Server
  webdav.exe -c webdav.yaml

  6. Fire up your server by run C:\TW\Webdav\startServer.cmd script
   (e.g double click on it)
   7. Go to your browser of choice and in address bar type
http://localhost:8080/yourwiki.html and login with "admin" and "admin"
(or with the credentials you used in your configuration file).
  - In this demo *test.html* is used so in address bar type:
  http://localhost:8080/test.html

Remarks

   - The wiki folder can have any number of sub folders like
  - C:\TW\Webdav\wikis\work
  - C:\TW\Webdav\wikis\personal
   - There is no need for shell script and one can fire up durectly from
the Windows powershell or command line e.g
  - webdav.exe -c webdav.yaml
   - The webdav server allows to add any number of users each with
different wiki folder, credential and access level

2019-12-16 Thread Mohammad
This is amazing!
I have open 10 wiki at the same time the footprint for webdav is 4.1MB
so, it is great to be used on small and old machine Raspberry Pi or an
old mobile phone with Android installed!

Sugestion
 - If it can create backup, it will be very useful for authoring
 - I shell script like (startServer.cmd) can be used and put as a shortcut
on Desktop or anywhere to start the server

[tw5] Re: Easily open excised (included) tiddler?

2019-12-16 Thread DemoniWaari

If someone is interested in this hack, do note that the normal tiddler save
and cancel buttons don't do anything. Everything is immediately mirrored to
the original tiddler and you can only close the edit field from the "hide"
button at the bottom of the edit area. So its kinda scary, thankfully
ctrl-z works if you do something you should not.

[tw5] Easy local saving with WebDav

2019-12-16 Thread Joost

I hope sharing this info will help those who are looking for easy saving
with a small system footprint and storage.

I use two small WebDav servers for saving, one for my Mac and one for my
Windows devices. Both are free and have security features build in for
access.

1. Windows

Software can be found at https://github.com/hacdias/webdav/

See readme for all options. For quick testing make a configuration file
called "webdav.yaml" and add the following lines:

scope: .
modify: true
address: 0.0.0.0
port: 8080
tls: false
cert: cert.pem
key: key.pem
users:
  - username: admin
  - password: admin

Put your wiki in the same directory as the program (just for the test)
Start with command: "webdav -c webdav.yaml" and go
to http://localhost:8080/yourwiki.html in your browser and login with
"admin" and "admin" (or with the credentials you used in your configuration
file).

2. Mac

Go to the Mac App store and search for "WebDavNav Server". It is very easy
to setup. Let me know if you encounter any problems.

I have used both tools for 6 months now on a daily basis and never had any
problems.

Best regards,

Joost

Hi,
Recent means "recently edited" so it depends on the "modified" field.

[tw5] Re: Recents tab out of order

2019-12-16 Thread Ton Gerner
Hi Dave,

May be an overridden shadow tiddler $:/core/ui/MoreSideBar/Recent?

Check with Controlpanel > Info > Basics

Click at the bottom the Advanced search icon next to the number of
overridden shadow tiddlers.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Ton

if there are more records than what *Limit* (tbl-limit) is set to.
Alternatively, you can set tbl-show-pagination to true or false to force it
on or off. The default values for new tables can be changed in
*$:/plugins/aaldrich/tables/defaults.*

you like; for instance: *width:80%;*

I hope this helps,

 Hi Alan,
I realized for tags template you have developed your own template! I
think you can use the core template for this purpose.

 So, in $:/plugins/aaldrich/tables/template/body/tags
 replace the content with below

 >>
 <$tiddler
 tiddler=<>>{{||$:/core/ui/ViewTemplate/tags}}

where tagclass is used to adjust the margin as TW margin is high for
 table cell

 .tagclass .tc-tags-wrapper{ margin:2px 0px; }

 What do you think?
