Hi Lost Admin

Happy to see my TW-daughter featured on your baby project :–)

And it is o.k. you call me TE – I recognized myself instantly.

Happy parenting and adopting everyone!

Ciao Lost Admin

Thank you for that detailed outlay.

Truly I think better knowing what people are doing with TW and its
"Children" will do masses to get it appreciated more. Both by "us"and by
"them" (potential new users).

And your Bonus Point bears repeating ...

2017-06-29 Thread Lost Admin
If it makes you feel any better Josiah (can I just call you Joss?),

As a result of you all teaching me how to do things with TiddlyWiki I have
5 separate "daughter" wikis. 4 are doing quite well and 1 is still a baby.
Only the baby is truely public for you to see.

1) A Wiki to help me keep track of my media collection (only available on
my internal home network). I have a bunch of DVDs and Bluerays (and a few
VHS tapes still). Not all have been converted and imported into my media
server. The Wiki helps me keep track of which ones have been import. It
also helps me save money as I can look at it on my phone when I'm at the
store so I don't buy a DVD/Blueray of a movie that I've already got (I did
this 3 times before I make the wiki).

2) A Wiki to help me keep track of the characters I've got in the MMORPG
Dungeons and Dragons Online. That game lets me have up to 54 characters and
other players can have even more (so could I if I paid some extra money).

3) A Wiki I created to keep track of all my business information when I was
an independent consultant. I was earning enough it made sense to
incorporate, the wiki track all the information and timelines related to
incorporating. I have since taken a full time position which brings us to
...

4) The full time job I took involves working on a bunch of project
simultaneously and tracking specific items for each project. While the
company does have a tool that does a pretty good job at tracking the
details within each project, they don't have a good solution that meets my
needs for tracking all the projects themselves (they have some good tools
for project managers but that's not what I do and those tools don't fit my
needs.

5) The baby. This one came into existence because someone on this list
wanted people to test his (her?) new tool for putting TW5 instances on
Tiddlyspot.com. I created one. This one you can see, its
http://thelostadmin.tiddlyspot.com/.

As a bonus, a couple of my co-workers saw my tiddlywiki I'm using to keep
track of all the things I care about at work. They liked it and asked about
it. So one of the daughters has had a couple of daughters. :-)

A public directory, to which people could submit their (publicly available)
tiddlywikis, might help, basically an extended version of this:
http://tiddlywiki.com/#Examples

PmWiki has two such directories:
http://www.pmwiki.org/wiki/PmWiki/PmWikiUsers
http://www.pmwiki.org/wiki/PmWiki/SuccessStories

Many people like to showcase their work and generate traffic to their
sites, after all. On the other hand, maintaining such a directory would
involve some work (e. g. fighting spam).

Cheers,

Stef

I agree with this and it is possibly a huge problem. One problem is that we
don't know if it is a huge problem. One problem we *do* know is that we
don't have the tools for such assessment.

I guess it's part of TWs current nature; TW is typically a private matter
in at least two critical senses: It typically contains private data and it
is typically stored as a private file. Come to think of it, maybe NSA or
KGB have loads of valuable stuff on TW offspring.

As usual, I think TWederation is a potential stepping stone to improve
this. Once we start to connect our TWs it will be much easier to measure
things.

Its likely mostly because I use a format most people never do. I have three

Thanks Josiah,

Intersting, at 320 by 480 and 360 by 640 and 768 by 1024 in "Reponsive
Design Mode" it goes into TiddlyWiki's default "mobile mode" with menu over
content. At least that happens on my PC.

It has been awhile since discussions on designing for mobile (phone) use. I
don't remember at what screen width TiddlyWiki would automatically switch.
That was the reason I kept a menu in the right sidebar.

First reponse I received with a problem. Thanks for the heads-up.

bigger than I initially envisioned. (They also need some updating.) They

A Quick Start Guide, aimed at new users, and a Developer's Guide:

Not necessarily something that someone could reuse, but is an example of

Ciao Arlen

It could include that. But I was mostly thinking about the contradiction
between the "bespokeism" that we, in practice, strongly encourage,
contrasted with a paucity of tangible completed TWs to look at.

Given ALL the work that is going in daily to help folk solve issues there
is NO corresponding SHOWCASE of results.

Something like that.

Lol.

I'm obscure, I guess.

I kinda mean that we do much work in this group helping get a TW to work
(using the baseline of the standard release) ... but we RARELY see the
results in completed TWs.

I do think its an issue for wider uptake. I don't think most users want to
have to create a TW, they want to see completed TW in THEIR area of skill
they can tweak a bit, but not have to create.
