Summary: Make opening new window configurable

Initial Comment:
It seems that there is no more a way to display applet in the same browser
window.
There was an "Open New Window" parameter in earlier Java viewer versions.
If it's possible, please get it back. Thanks!

Message:
I'd be interested in looking at the patches. One of my customers uses the
display-in-browser-window functionality with the TurboVNC Viewer and has
expressed a desire to have that with the next-gen viewer as well.

OK, looks doable. I've got a (basically) working implementation. but due
to the amount of things that will need to be tweaked & tested, I'd like to
wait until Peter creates the 1.3 branch before I commit anything. I can
post patches here in the meantime.

That would be great - I hope you find a way!

I looked at this recently for the TurboVNC viewer and decided that it would
be too difficult to implement, but after a second look I'm re-thinking
that. I see at least two ways that this might be done without too much
change. Let me try some things out this weekend and see.

I just want to display the VNC content - that is what the VNC viewer is
for?

We combine ExtJS html app with the java applet to provide a feature rich VM
console.

My understanding is that you can't display JFrames in a browser window.
The new Java viewer is designed to behave more like the native viewers, so
it has a rich GUI that includes features like remote desktop resizing,
scaling, full-screen mode, and a lot of the other features that the C++
viewer has.

Applets are a fastly dying technology, and applets displayed in the browser
window even more so. Is there a reason why you can't use Java Web Start?

browser, so that is not really the problem.

(I currently use 1.1.0, because of this issue with 1.2)

Brian can give a more thorough answer, but I doubt this is possible with
the new Java code, because it's a Swing app. Are you successfully doing
this with TigerVNC 1.2?

Message:
This is really a blocker, because we can no longer display the applet
inside the web page.

Always opening a new window is a bad thing for applets.
