Conventional TV coax (solid core rather than foam) is not ideal for GPS.

OK, I got the thing started up, the com port seems to work with LH. Of course
it says bad position. I've got a screen shot of the startup, after about 15
minutes the green LED went on, indicating lock, but after about a half hour, it
went out and the red light went on indicating a fault

If it's trying to get a position *and* it goes below 4 sats due to antenna
location, it will go to the red light mode. Once it's got a position it will
hold in there with one sat. The modern nav GPS's are much more sensitive than
the older GPSDO's, so you will need a better antenna location

I don't know why you have a red LED.
A red LED is generally hardware failure on the Trimble Nortel units AFAIK.
Hit space bar in LH to get command help.
Once you are used to LH it's a very powerful tool.

I bought a Datum Symmetricom TS2100 on e-bay. I've updated the firmware
to 4.1. It did not have a gps module. After looking on time-nuts it

You mis-understand - the inverter is simply to alter the negative-going
logic to positive-going, not to delay!
