And remember that commands sent to the Z3801A end in Line Feed, not Carriage
Return.

Continuing my efforts to fix the 5065A...
There was something wrong in the A7 (AC Amplifier assembly).
DC balance of the input stage was completely off-scale
and one of the 1854-0023 transistors had an open junction.Luckily I had a small
supply of them but I also discovered that
the OP-Amps
I would simply slap a 741 into position to see how it behaves.
Also check those zeners for +/- 14.7V. They go bad.

So curious did that get the unit running??

Hi
It’s been a *long* time since the 709 or 741 were “best” in any regard. I would
not go with
socketed parts. I’ve seen more problems from sockets than from the parts that
go into them.
Semiconductor quality / reliability has come a *long* way since the 1960’s.
How to redesign the board
Fellow time-nuts,
Does anyone has the schematic of the PSU-board in the Z3801A?
Me and a fellow ham need it.
Cheers & 73,
Magnus SA0MAD

Ulf,
You either should replace the -6010 old style A7 or if building one from
scratch build the late style.
The new style has a BP filter on the 2nd harmonic that makes the 2nd
harmonic reading a better indication.
On the old style as you adjust the CF (in open loop) you will see the 2nd
harmonic
When I mentioned redesign, it was the intention to copy the by HP updated
designinto a new Cad project (I use Cadence PCB Editor for which I have a
license)and then accomodate for more modern versions of the
operationalamplifiers since I guess that there are not that many "A7"
modulesaround
I seem to remember its 19200, 7,O,1.

Hi Dave,
This is what I was looking for but could not locate.
Thanks!

I didn't look but I think that is up on KO4BB's site.

I connected a prototype of the HP-531xx calibrator signal circuits (input
squarer, freq doubler, divider, output buffer, level shifter) to a TAPR TICC to
see how stable the output was.
This prototype was built on perf board using DIP packaged 74AC logic so I was
not expecting good results.
Hi
Well if people are looking for those willing to “adopt” a stray 5065A or two,
I’ll certainly toss my name onto
that list !! :)
Back in the era HP did these designs, things like surface mount were still a
bit new. They had some
very legitimate questions about packaging and published a few
