[time-nuts] An example of phase noise

2006-08-20 Thread John Ackermann N8UR
Thought this might be interesting. I took a spectrum analyzer shot of my ICS525 Clock-Block synthesizer at 250MHz, and overlaid it with a shot of an RF signal generator (Marconi 2202A) at the same frequency, and using the same reference source. The 2202A is designed for bench use and isn't noted

[time-nuts] MJD Javascript?

2006-08-20 Thread John Ackermann N8UR
Being very lazy, I wonder if anyone has a bit of Javascript lying around that converts the current time to MJD and displays it? I thought it would be cool to put that on some of my plot pages so you can readily figure out the age of the data. John ___

Hi John: It's my understanding that the lowest jitter comes about when the highest output divisor is used. In case of ties use the lowest VCO divisor. See: http://www.pacificsites.com/~brooke/BTSG.shtml Have Fun, Brooke Clarke -- w/Java http://www.PRC68.com w/o Java

A handy passive frequency doubler can be made just using a double-balanced mixer. Feed 5 MHz into the X and R ports connected together and take 10 MHz out of the L port. You'll loose a few db and the waveform becomes rather triangular but if your goal is to sync the internal oscillator

[time-nuts] Tracor 704 query

2006-08-20 Thread Bill Hawkins
The Tracor 704 is a phase angle meter with two ranges - 36 and 360 degrees. The meter is analog, not digital. It has three inputs - Ref, A, and B. Seems like a phase angle meter should only have two inputs, but the function switch has 5 positions - Ref, A, B, A-B and B-A. My question is, what is
