[time-nuts] Vectron Type 229 Crystal Oscillator

I've recently bought a Vectron 229-9268 100MHz crystal oscillator via Ebay with no information other than it was supposed to have been removed from an item of Racal radio equipment several years ago. It has an SMA RF connector and a 7 pin circular power connector, much in the style of a

Kovar is a glass seal, much like a tube base :-), so that's sorted. The voltage is as you point out another problem. The presence of the Kovar seal suggests that the unit is nicely sealed up, not to be opened. Do you know what the waveform or power level should be on the output? Don

Hi Don Thanks for the reply, the can itself is certainly soldered shut but whether or not the base is intended to be fully sealed or just to provide insulation around the pins I'm not sure, given that the can seal is probably breached anyway by the nut fixed SMA socket. I've been

Hi Nigel, I don't have any specific info on your oscillator. If I was doing it, I'd investigate the oscillator and oven seperately. Power just the oscillator and monitor the output while you slowly raise the voltage from zero. Once the output appears, watch the amplitude as you increase

Hi Ed Thanks very much for your suggestions, it had occured to me that it should be possible to run the oscillator without the oven and if I don't find any specific information as to actual supply voltages I'll give your suggestion a try. That's a great idea re the oven too, followed

Whatever you do, don't apply power to the pins indicated as VCXO Supply. I'm pretty sure that is the internal regulated supply that's accessible only to connect a pot so that you can remotely trim the frequency - if it has the feature, including a varicap diode in the oscillator. One end of

Have you tried contacting Vectron International? http://www.vectron.com/contact/index.htm Several years ago I gathered a sizable quantity of various precision surplus OCXOs of Vectron manufacture for a feasibility demo on a client project. A phone call and I was into the engineering
