[time-nuts] GPS antenna polar plot....

2012-08-05 Thread Brian Justin
Guys- I'm in the field dealing with a day-job related issue. Does or has anyone seen a typical polar plot in the elevation plane for a GPS antenna such as the VIC-100 or Timing-1000 family of antennas? I could not find any with a quick Google search. I could simulate it in HFSS if I was back at

Re: [time-nuts] Pulsar Source?

If I recall correctly, In one of my trips to the NRAO in Greenbank, WV they were, at one time, using a dedicated 60ft dish to track a pulsar to compare it against their local H-Maser. (It was interesting to see the Maser as it looked like a homebrew version. I saw no manufacturer's name on

Be very careful of the FPD in the 4046. It has a dead-zone when the phase error is at or very close to zero. Some versions of the chip claim to have improved that dead-zone. But it's still there to some degree, at least in all the versions I have tried. -Brian, WA1ZMS - Original

detector Have you tried the 74HCT9046? They claim no dead zone. Note - seems to be HCT only. Orin. On Wed, Jan 4, 2012 at 9:32 AM, Brian Justin wa1...@att.net wrote: Be very careful of the FPD in the 4046. It has a dead-zone when the phase error is at or very close to zero. Some versions

Don't recall if this was already suggested. but could he be using GPS time as his local reference? Right now that's ~16 seconds off from UTC and the correction offset is in the GPS data stream, but you have to remember to use it. -Brian, WA1ZMS - Original Message From: Bob Camp

To Luis' pointye ol' HP-8640 is a FLL sig gen. You can hear the wobble or shifts in freq/phase if you press the lock button and listen to the output on a good VHF or UHF receiver. Much better to use un-locked for non-timenut RF work! :-) -Brian, WA1ZMS --- On Tue, 5/3/11, Luis Cupido
