[time-nuts] Holy cesium clock, Batman!-Again

2012-04-09 Thread Perry Sandeen
wrote: >> Oops, there is currently 7 caesium clocks in my lab (not all mine)
and I'm not there to protect them all. Lost count of rubidium...

Observations:

1.  Envy, envy, envy.

2.  With the 7 cesium clocks you still don’t know which one(s) is/are exactly
correct although it may be many decimal places to the right.

2.  With the fact that the universe is expanding the decision of the period of
the second can only be arbitrary no matter what star system is used.

3.  Which leads us to the logical conclusion from the song by the group musical
group Chicago: Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?

4.  And the sound of one hand clapping.

But it is that enjoyment of the chase, the joy of learning (which I’ve
personally acquired a great deal of from this list) and the joy of achieving
increasingly better personal results that keeps us striving for getting ever
closer to an impossible-to-obtain exactness. :).

Re: [time-nuts] Holy cesium clock, Batman!

2012-04-09 Thread Lee Mushel
I am puzzled by this thread. In front of me on one side of the TV are
three big ben alarm clocks. Two are quite old and one is a less than one
year old Chinese knock-off. On the other side of the screen is my
treasured 1960's Atmos which I think is in need of a re-charge. I am happy
just as long as I see movement in that case. Behind me is a grandmother
clock that I built in the 70's and which has a quite new German movement.
It is off by one hour since that can be blamed on daylight savings time.
None of these clocks display the correct time. I no longer bother to wear a
wrist watch.

I watch how complex all of your lives are and I can honestly say that I sit
in retirement completely content and happy with my clocks. I suspect I am
more lordly than most of you!
