List,

I have a genuine NI GPIB-USB-HS in perfect condition for sale; $167 shipped
in the US. It has the book and s/w 488.2 for Windows, ver 2.7.3. It was
used for about 2 months, 4 years ago.

factories enough.

I noticed some US made ones on the auction site for cheap. They say they
offer a 30 day money back guarantee. Hmmm

Re: [time-nuts] SoftMark USB to GPIB converter

2016-03-02 Thread gonzo .
No - Please don't.
No more of us need be burnt by that POS.

Once you've bought it, you discover all you can do is send one command at a
time until you buy additional software to get the DLL needed to do anything
even remotely interesting.
The documentation is terrible to the point the 'free' DLL has the same name as
the 'paid' version, so it took me several emails (if you get a reply, you're
doing well) to workout why why it didn't work as described.

By far the best 'affordable' GPIB to USB adapter on the market is the Prologix
(http://prologix.biz/).
If you are interested in building your own, have a look at Anders take on an
open design (http://www.dalton.ax/gpib/).

Cheers,
ian

>From all accounts, the Softmark unit is pretty useless. Depending on
which software you will use, you might consider a Prologix. Also,
there are quite a few Agilent USB-GPIB converters on ebay. Although I
understand that most of the ones selling as "new" are fakes. I ordered
a "used" one. When I have it, I will open it to see if it is genuine
or not.

would it work with my 1992? I seem to remember some discussion from way
back that they don't play well with a lot of HP/Agilent/Keysight stuff. Has
