Re: [time-nuts] Sw for pm6680B
With the 350pS single shot resolution the PM6680 can't replace the 20pS of the 5370. Keep the 5370 as well. The PM6681 is 50pS. The SR620 is 25pS. Exactly what I wanted to point out. The 5370 has very good noise floor, so you want that until you have something significantly better. However, the PM6680 is much niftier for day-to-day work and for many long-term measures is far than sufficient anyway. If the noise annoys you on the fan, replace it with a more quiet fan from this millenium. Also mount a fan on the heat-sink, as it burns a little too much for self-convection to work well for that heatsink. It's particularly educational to see the ADEV and HDEV curves flap up and down in the top tau range displayed, and then for shorter taus it will stabilize as more data has been gathered, and then as measurement continues, the curve stabilizes for mid-range taus. The old mummy arrived some days ago, I tested it, it works great, at least the basic function I tested. [time-nuts] Sw for pm6680B
Hi the Gang, I just got not cheap but for a quite reasonnable price a legacy Fluke PM6680B counter. This toy seems to be very interesting to play with, I already have a 5370B but this new toy I got seems to be more fancy to play with, have to be confirmed. I know there is a software from Fluke names TimeView, is it possible to get a copy of it? Are there any other software running under Windows XP and/or w7 I could use? Any help will be appreciated. Re: [time-nuts] Sw for pm6680B
Hi Pierre-Francois Assuming yours is the Ebay item I think it is, I was wondering who bought that and see there's another due to finish in a couple of hours or so:-) The Fluke PM6680B is a rebadged Pendulum CNT-80, Pendulum now being part of Spectracom. Both Fluke and Tektronix, and perhaps others, have offered rebadged Pendulum counters and TimeView too was originally a Pendulum product. Whilst time limited trial versions of TimeView have been widely available I don't know if these are supplier specific, ie whether or not the Tektronix version I have will work with other rebadged units or even with the Pendulum originals. Either way, each supplier seems to offer it's own branded version of TimeView and these have always been very expensive, I've never seen it available second hand but suspect registration might not be transferable anyway. As Bjorn has pointed out, John Miles' TimeLab supports the PM6680B and that would certainly seem to be your best option. Both Fluke and Tektronix, and perhaps others, have offered rebadged Pendulum counters and TimeView too was originally a Pendulum product. Pendulum came out of Philips Industrier AB in Järfälla, which was the remaining part of that development firm that got part of Philips/Fluke. Fluke actually maintained the good old Philips Measurement (PM) IDs, so saying they where rebadged is a bit of a missnomer. It is indeed the same counter. The CNT-90 and CNT-91 exists in Tektronix rebadged form as 3000 and 3100 (forgot the prefix). Good stuff. Whilst time limited trial versions of TimeView have been widely available I don't know if these are supplier specific, ie whether or not the Tektronix version I have will work with other rebadged units or even with the Pendulum originals. While TimeView is a separate product and quite nice, it is becoming more and more obsolete as TimeLab starts to support a wider range of counters (again). As Bjorn has pointed out, John Miles' TimeLab supports the PM6680B and that would certainly seem to be your best option. Indeed try that first. TimeLab seems to work very nicely with the PM6681 that Björn has. I haven't tried the latest and greatest of TimeView, so I will try it. Would be nice to know how them match up to each other.
