As I mentioned at the cost I see on ebay it doesn't make sense to screw
around.
However the ole iotech 488 is working perfectly fine and am using it right
now to take readings from a HP 436 power meter. I figured that was the
easiest way to get started with python and so far that is true. I
Hi
Just for the sake of listing all the variations:

For reference, my original Thunderbolt Monitor had a 3.3V CPU (3.6V max)
and a "voltage regulator" from the 5V consisting of two silicon diodes in
series. That worked very well. The original kit still runs, 10 years later.
When Fluke.l (of eBay fame) copied the design, he saved the cost of the two
Thanks for sharing, I purchased one of the scrap modules, not the PCB mounted
ones. Good catch, but if I understand your post the error is in the schematic
but not the actual boards themselves. I see no schematic in the listing (maybe
removed). If the boards are faulty I would have thought

was kinda thinking that might be the case, perhaps time to hope they weren't

Late here, will check tomorrow

Hi
The “normal chips” that should be inside the module all have something like a
3.6V max supply rating on them.
I would guess that 5V
Oh boy, I'd forgotten these even existed:-)
Somewhere, in a very remote corner of a dark and lonely shelf, I probably still
have lurking a Brainboxes PSI Box, described optimistically as a "flexible
three way interface converting between IEEE488, RS232 and Centronics Parallel".
Brainboxes was,
This thread prompted me to turn on my old IPad1 and I confirmed the Emerald

During the December conversation re LEA-M8T modules on scraps of PCB from Ebay
I commented that the same seller also had complete circuit boards available,
and suggested this might be a worthwhile alternative.
I've dealt with this seller before, always been very happy with the results,

I do have a number of those and while slow and clunky, they work and are
well documented.
They are quite configurable and I have not come across a piece of equipment
I could not make work with one of those.
However, I would not recommend buying one (at any price) simply because

For the curious, and if anyone wants to make it pretty, have a ball:

$dt = new DateTime( "now", new DateTimeZone( $tz )); //first argument
"must" be a string
$dt->setTimestamp( $timestamp ); //adjust the object to correct timestamp
$out_str .= $tz . ": " . $dt->format('d.m.Y, H:i:s') .
Mindlessly inspired by this thread, here the cheapest solution you could
get (I believe):
1) Buy a pre-paid Android phone for about $30 ($20 when they are on sale).
They have a surprising amount of functionality for about as much money as a
middle of the road Raspberry Pi.
2) Point the browser
Jim,
Not to sound greedy or anything, but if you have a Thunderbolt around, you
can use 4 of my kits and put them on different time zones :)

Hello to the group.
Several have asked what the old rs-232 to GPIB/HPIB controllers were.
The correct model is the IOtech micro488 and blackbox 488ex.
But looking at ebay there are various models with a range of prices such
that it makes no sense to look at these units if you can't get them for
