Well, four of these at $36/ea might make spec:

rating and cooling are the real reliability enhancers in decently
designed supplies.
And, this was designed for a telecom application, so it's /probably
/rated for 36-72 VDC. This is the normal specd range for 48 V nominal.
I'd still use a 48 V supply, bu

I've noodled about building a board that was intended to connect to a
single instrument, but not really gotten serious about it. I wanted
everything in the shop on Ethernet.

I don't know what a timepod is in this context.
The only reason you'd need a 17dBm drive mixer if if you'd exceed the RF
or LO port input level of the SRA-1. (Clean) square wave drive for a
diode ring mixer is /preferred/.

h additional.
If you get one and discover you really want more pricing again starts at
free for the first unit. I have a dozen or so. I also have some 1U rack
mount Ethernet switches. Same basic form factor but will require more
front panel work.

The "Cone of Protection" is a thumbrule. It's not a myth, but it's also
not an absolute law of nature. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy to some
degree because it drives component design guidelines.
Bunker spacing is also a thumbrule, based on a lot of horrible
experience. It's also a function of
ive voltages on
Ethernet cable runs. Most residential buildings are
electromagnetically transparent and the protection on most Ethernet
interfaces is oriented toward ESD.
