With an older Cell Phone Protocol, we had used a multi-tech cell phone modem to
parasitically (without using any minutes) get GPS synchronized time data from
local cell phone towers.
Any idea on how to do this with the next generation of cell phone protocols.

in the 1930's you could call the local telephone operator - who would look at
the wall clock at say the "electric time is" .
meaning the time the generator synchronous wall clock read.

You just need one of these analog master clocks. The pointer reads zero if
pendulum time is equal to line frequency time. I assume mathematically it
integrates the difference over time.

I was wondering if anyone could describe how the US power gird sets it's line
frequency.
I know there is a standard somewhere, a local operator just told me - he just
synchs with the grid - but obviously that standard is set somewhere.

Is there a listing of Garmin GPS devices that have a WNRO problem - their
support page doesn't state which ones have a problem.
We have used their 17HVS and 16xHVS units.
Their website just says;
"Our testing shows the vast majority of Garmin GPS devices will handle the WNRO
without issues."
for local time keeping with NEMA strings we just use a local offset with DST
rules.
