[time-nuts] Lady heather on a Raspberry pi

2018-11-08 Thread Mark Sims
Lady Heather uses the DTR and RTS modem control signals to control the fan. If you are using a USB-Serial converter the code should work as-is. Heather does not have any code specific to a particular type of hardware (such as the PI). If you are using the PI GPIO serial port, you would need

[time-nuts] Lady heather on a Raspberry pi

2018-11-08 Thread Ken
Hi, I have had Lady Heather running on a small pc for a number of years, controlling a thunderbolt- until the pc quietly died a couple of weeks ago. As I didn't have another spare pc, but I did have a couple of spare raspberry pi's, I thought to have a go at putting it on a Pi. Using the

[time-nuts] HP 58503B PSU replacement

2018-11-08 Thread Mark Sims
I put a $25 50 watt (?) Meanwell in mine and in mine and it works well. The original power supply was made by PowerOne. They are still made...$300-$400 on Digikey and Mouser. My 58503B had a shorted ceramic cap across the input of one of the 15V regulators. The cap was glowing orange with

Video distribution amplifiers are a very good and inexpensive solution to this problem. Think I paid $5US for my 24 port one (which is actually 3x dual 1 in 4 out units). I converted one of them from 75 ohm to 50Ω and didn't bother doing the rest as it made no discernible difference for timing

The 9478 is an excellent unit but slightly unconventional. It does not discipline the internal OXCO to the external standard when present. It has a 10MHz PLL VFO tat is locked to either the internal OCXO or external refernce depeding what is available. If the external reference is present te

2018-11-08 Thread George Atkinson via time-nuts
Last month I was at the UK “National” hamfest and in the flea market area a seller had a HP 58503B for sale. It was missing the cover and power supply (AC mains version)including mounting. However it was only £3 (<5$) so it was a no-brainer to buy it. Research shows that PSU failure is fairly

I'm starting to be a bit more active with time nuttery. This is sort of a test post. I tried a longer one and it got bounced for some reason. Robert G8RPI. ___ time-nuts mailing list -- time-nuts@lists.febo.com To unsubscribe, go to
