[Tn5250j-general] Issue with BREAK messages
Hey Kenneth, Here is another old bug we reported and not real sure if it was fixed. Let me know if you need more info. Original Message Subject: [Tn5250j-general] Issue with BREAK messages From:Richard Houston [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date:Tue, August 17, 2004 10:09 am To: tn5250j-general@lists.sourceforge.net -- Hi all, One of the programmers has found an interesting little issue. I ma not a 400 person so I will paste it in below verbatim. Let me know if you need anymore info. Hi Rich, I quite by accident found another problem... (Kinda big problem). It seems that when a program fails, and attempts to send a message back to the screen, it doesn't do anything. The session stays as locked to activity, and would run forever (you have to actually at least until you end the job). The message type I invoked was a CPF message but I have a feeling it will happen with other messages as well. Normally the program waits until you enter in the option you want the system to take (C G S D or F), but since the message was not sent anywhere, there was no way to respond to the message, so the program continued to sit there. The program should have sent the message to the jobs message queue as a *BREAK type and provided a place for the reply (see page 3). Pages 1 and 2 are how it worked on my machine. I tried the exact same thing on one of the regular users machine (signed on as myself) and the message popped up the way it is suppose to. Also, when this happens, the system request process doesn't work. I called up system request and put in a 2 to end the job and it didn't do anything, job still remained there. Then I tried a 1 to call up an alternate session and nothing happened. It's possible the 2 are connected because I got Arnel to try the SysReq when it wasn't in this stuck mode and it worked as expected. If you need more info, let me know. [Tn5250j-general] Hotspot issue with http and https
Hey all, Just wanted to let you know we have been testing 0.5.8 Alpha2 all day and all seams good with the exception of one issue. It seem that the http and https based hotspots are broken. :0 If I single or double click on a https link nothing happens. The XSystem in the bottom left corner flashes quickly bit nothing happens after that. Now if I click on a http link nothing happens but if I double click on the http link it is like I hit the F3 key an it exits the screen. Very strange. Anything I can do to help debug? This is on Linux and JDK 1.4.2_06 Thanks! Regards, +--+ | Richard Houston .^. | | R.L.H. Re: [Tn5250j-general] Release
One small thing. I seem to have an issue when starting th5250j. Once the connection screen pops up it is behind the tn5250j splash screen. If I click on the connection screen the connection screen will not pop above the splash screen. The splash screen seems frozen and will not move and no window will pop above it. Once I connect the splash screen goes away and all is good again. Any ideas? I am testing with sun jdk 1.5.0_3 complied with the same version on Linux. Also the spawn issue with firefox work now! [Tn5250j-general] compiler 1.5 Vs 1.4
Hi all, Quick question: If I compile tn5250j on SunJDK 1.4.2_08 I can run it on a system with 1.4.2_X and 1.5.X but if I compile it in SunJDK 1.5.0_03 I can not run it on 1.4.2.XX. Brain fried with studying for the certs as well. I will be updating CVS tonight or tomorrow. Most of the changes are to do with adding 1.4 stuff that I have been wanting to do for a very long time. There are also some new options to try out. 1. The mouse wheel now can be used to change to next and previous sessions. 2. You can drag and drop tabs to reorder them 3. A new option was added to the Connections - Options screen to Startup with last view. This will load the last view you had before shutting down the emulator. The default is off. 4. Hopefully fixed the two bugs reported by Marc. I sent him a new .jar this morning so if he has the time before the weekend he will let us know. If you see anything here that you would like to discuss or do not like please let me know. For the developers I will have changed how some objects are being created and how many. Also synchronized some methods after implementing the show last view option. Like I said not a lot of time to really debug anything deeply like the data stream stuff and remote command implementation. Maybe next update. If anybody sees any difference what soever with speed or responsiveness of the the emulator, good or bad, let me know. Re: [Tn5250j-general] Checking in on the project
Hi all, Just wanted to chiming on this topic. I was at a proof of technologies at IBM here on HATS http://www-306.ibm.com/software/webservers/hats/ It basically turns the 5250 screens into pure HTML. The development env only works on windows right now which suck for m 400 based client as they run Linux on the desktop. Nice this about hats is that there is no code changes required on the 400 side. You can customize the layout and such as well so it can look nothing like your green screen apps at all. Kind of cool. I, personally, would like to see some sort of OSS version out there and I think this is what web5250 we aiming for. Maybe with enough effort web5250 could do the same. Just a thought. This sounds exactly like what I had in mind a couple of years ago. Seems to me that the mapping concept would be fairly straight-forward (probably a lot harder to do than it sounded...) This is very cool and Swing would be a good fit. Have you looked at Java Server Faces at all? I saw a demo of a JSF app that looked very Swing-like but was all HTML and mostly a server side implementation. I have been meaning to take a look at it in more detail and see how difficult the coding is. The JSP/Struts/Tiles approach has always been too complex to me and JSF *seemed* to simplify that. I need to take a look at it soon but it might give you a richer-looking UI without the client side hassles of Swing. Mapping to JSF components might be a possibility. I'll look into it when I have a chance to see what you are doing. One other idea I had in the screen scraping area was a static mapping option that would allow you to actually change the component layout at the client end. Rather than doing the transformation on the fly, you could create map file and use that instead. Not sure how to implement that though. Thanks for the information on the code pages and the good news on the code page support in JT400. That should take care of it! Look forward to hearing more about the screen scraper Pete Helgren [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hello Pete, great to hear some acitivity from this corner. The screenscraper works for one of our customers and is tailored to their screen layouts. Still have to do some bugfixes for them shortly, so I can send some screenshots on the list to give an idea to what it looks like. We were now discussing internally whether we were going to apply the scraper to our own screens, or build some kind of Swing gui components on top of the stream: a table for a subfile, a label for static text, a textfield for fields etc. The idea is to be able to build swing panels that read and write their data from the screen. The buttons and menu's would call function keys etc to do screen transitions and move to the next swing panel. What do you think? For us it is just to be able to quickly roll out GUIs until we find the time to reengineer the apps in full GUI apps. The 1200 codepage is provided in JT400. However I can not find the 1208. I wonder however if those are supported if they're not in de toolbox. Or are the numbers provider here not the AS/400 numberings? Hey guys, I am all for getting things going again. I am not a programmer but I can relay my clients issues and help find bugs. On Patrick's issues re: the splash screen, I had the same splash screen issue but the latest cvs version fixed that for me. We are running on Linux as well including Fedora Core 4 Centos and Ubuntu. ON Sun jdk 1.4.2_09 and 1.5.0_05. I agree Ubuntu is very nice. 5.10 is a great improvement over 5.04 We have found a few issues. Should we all be putting these issues in the bug database on the sourceforge site so they don't get lost? Thanks! Best regards, +--+ | Richard Houston .^. | | R.L.H. Running java 1.5.0_05 on my linux box gives the next troubles... 1) Splashscreen stays on top and the connection window is below it, there is not way to remove it until you actually make the connection to the iseries. 2) Keymapping does nothing... no matter which key you press, nothing happens and you have to manually edit the keymap file. xdev gives other values then the values used in the keymap file, which makes it hard to find out which value you actually need. No need to say this is very frustrating, cause you loose a lot of functionality in the first place. The second thing... a dutch user contacted me about the jython commands that can be used in tn5250j. A few years ago i was using this functionality a lot, but since i became SCJP i lost the attention to the scripting feature in tn5250j. So there is a lot changed in meanwhile, and commands changed also. The website was never made up-to-date so it's damned hard to actually find out what the exact commands are. Anybody that knows what actually was changed ? _session.getscreen() seems not to work anymore cause things are changed. So i think after almost one year of inactivity, that it becomes time we pickup the project again and do the very last bugfixes, and also remove the 1.3 code crap, to become some more up-to-dated. I know the most of you guys are working on the browser version of tn5250j, but that is not that interesting for the most users, cause tn5250j standalone just does what it needs to do. So maybe we can focus back on the program itself and make it bugfree on windows and linux (and mac) for once and for all. Ofcourse i'm not the project leader, but seems he lost his interests in the project cause we haven't heard him anymore for a very long time. As i'm one of the people that joined the project in the very first beginning it should be nice if we could make a deal, that i will try to lead the team until Kenneth returns. What do you guys think ? Well maybe my java skills do not go that far as most of you, but i will try to lead the project into the right directions. The most important goal is to make it stable now, so we actually can release a FINAL (stable) version. I'm into Linux now, so i can heavily test the program on that platform now. Sorry not to weigh in until now. I have been very, very busy. Hoping things will slow down a bit over the next 2 or three weeks so I can do more on the tn5250j stuff. I am not a licensing expert but as I understand the LGPL, a company can integrate the java classes/jars (library is what the LGPL language says) into their application and can charge for the the application as long as they don't charge for whatever they use from tn5250j. It is a fine line in my opinion but they still need to indicate in their copyrights that some of the application is dependent upon tn5250j and licensed under LGPL (if we go that way). So they can use the tn5250j as part of their solution. They cannot use any source from the project in their own code or build a derived application from tn5250j and charge for it. They can only use complete components that are identifiable as such from tn5250j (like the protocolBean). What I don't know is that if they decide to enhance the tn5250j code are they obligated to contribute that code back to the project? I *think* they are but I am not sure. Where things get fuzzy is how to determine what component is being used. No doubt some of the tn5250j code has found it's way into a commercial product or two already. Hi there, This is the security appliance? If so as long as you can get a 1.4 or even better 1.5 JVM installed and it has a windows manager you should be good to go. I run TN5250J locally on a LTPS server (Linux terminal server project) which is a very minimal Linux install so I think you should be OK IF you can get a jvm on the appliance. ++ Best regards, -Richard Houston -R.L.H. Hey all, I down loaded the latest CVS version as of 14:00 CST. Complied fine and fires up with no issues. Re: [Tn5250j-general] STRPCCMD
Hey All, Thanks for looking into this for me. I really appreciate it. This would be a serous feather in TN5250J cap as it will allow us to eliminate 2 systems that require CA. We want to run TN as much as possible. On a side note, I complied CVS with Java 1.6 and it seems to work OK. It also works on Compiz-fusion on Ubuntu where CVS on 1.5 on Compiz-fusion would not render the TN5250J main screen. I agree with Pete, TN has been a wonderfully stable product and has many features that other 5250 emulators do not have such as tabs and the such. Thanks guys and look forward to helping dubug the STRCMD stuff. Rich Interestingly, when I looked at the code this weekend, it had the code that implemented the STRPCCMD in it already. I compared it against CVS and it looks like what I have is current. I need to debug the code, since it isn't working, but that may take a while for me to get to. Are you running the latest version? (we HAVE to get a final built and posted one of these days) The one that fixed the STRPCCMD? As far as I know I am. I have had some complaints from users about small issues that had been fix but since I put the STRPCCMD version in place some have come back. I think I will get a fresh CVS copy and see what happens. There is also the print screen issue with 1.6 I mentioned in an earlier thread so I wonder if there maybe other issues related to 1.6. Thanks All!!
