Re: [Tn5250j-general] Updates

2009-03-12 Thread kjpou
David and Christian

I was just looking out there myself and there are some things could be
deleted.

Of course can not remember if there was a tag or not for 0.6.0 but like
Christian says if there was then it would have been converted like the
others.

I will do a tag of 0.6.0 with what is there now if everyone is in
agreement. That will give others the chance to continue on.

I saw CVSROOT out there as well. I think it can be deleted but will
wait for a response from you guys.

Will delete .cvsignore for sure.

Head definitely needs deleting and or writtin over with a new release.
I vote for getting rid of and that way there is no confusion.

I just uploaded an svn dump of the current cvs repository
(created with cvs2svn --dumpfile tn5250jsvndump.gz tn5250j-cvs/ )
to the "uploads" directory (I'm not really sure where this is located)

According to
http://apps.sourceforge.net/trac/sitedocs/wiki/Subversion%20import%20instructions#ImportingaSubversiondumpfile
you should now be able to import this from the web interface.
After a succesfull import we should have a closer look at the new
repository (doing a checkout, building etc) and if everything is ok
close the old cvs repository. Then we can think about moving directories
etc.

Hello Patrick,

Thanks again. This is exactly what I wanted Kenneth to do i.e. create a
new version of TN5250j that will use the latest jar files & not 'hang'.
Also to make provision for clearing the marked area on screen.

Hopefully Kenneth is listening so I'll wait till a new version comes up -
till then I'm happy with what I've got !!

Thanks & best regards

Hi Ewart,

Thanks for the reply. I don't remember doing any compilation. I just
downloaded the windows version from the sourceforge site & installed it.

Yeah, that is what i mean, if you just download and install you are
running it on the latest java 1.6,
cause that is the jvm that is actual these days. So to avoid the problem
you have i have installed
java 1.4.2 and call the program with

"C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_12\bin\javaw.exe" -jar "C:\Program
Files\TN5250j\tn5250j.jar

to avoid the lockups you are getting.

I have always been using Ctl-C, but just the text gets copied to memory
but it doesn't get cleared from the screen - that's how it is supposed to
work !

Indeed, and it should work that way, and that is how it works perfectly
when i use 1.4.2,
cause tn5250j was builded with that java version. If i build it using
1.6.0 aka 6.0 then i have
continues freezes of the screens, very anoying.

I think there should be another option to clear the text from within the
marked area - as in Client Access.

Well no, ctrl-c should remove the marked area after it copies the text
to memory.

Best Regards,

Patrick

Re: [Tn5250j-general] Updates

2009-03-02 Thread Patrick Bielen
Hi Ewart,

Thanks for the reply. I don't remember doing any compilation. I just
downloaded the windows version from the sourceforge site & installed it.

Yeah, that is what i mean, if you just download and install you are
running it on the latest java 1.6,
cause that is the jvm that is actual these days. So to avoid the problem
you have i have installed
java 1.4.2 and call the program with

"C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_12\bin\javaw.exe" -jar "C:\Program
Files\TN5250j\tn5250j.jar

to avoid the lockups you are getting.

I have always been using Ctl-C, but just the text gets copied to memory
but it doesn't get cleared from the screen - that's how it is supposed
to work !

Patrick

Hi Ewart,

My name is Ewart de Souza & I've been hooked on to TN5250j for Windows
ever since I came to know of it. I love the font selection. The only
problem I have is that I find it quite unstable as it just hangs (at
least once a day). Can something be done about it ?

I had the same problem when i compiled and runned it on java 6
so only for tn5250j we still use the old java 1.4.2 to keep it run
smoothly.
If you use that jvm the lockups will be huge less than with 1.6.0

It would be great if it is possible to clear the area within a marked
block on the screen.

Just press ctrl-c and the marked block is gone (copied to memory).

Best Regards,

Patrick

be wrong, but it may also be a clue - I've noticed that this happens when
the enter key is pressed immediately after any other key without any time
lag. Because of this unstability I am not recommending this to my
colleagues who use Client Access.

It would be great if it is possible to clear the area within a marked

Keep up the good work.

Thanks & best regards

Hey all.

Just wanted to take this time to say hi to all of the others out there
that wrote. Christian, Patrick, Mark and Richard. Not sure how much
time I am going to be able to spend as just wanted to get Martin started
for right now.

Like I said before I am on the as400 side of an e-banking project
writing web services. Their schedule is damn tight and if I may say so
a little un realistic but that is not my place nor what they are paying
me for. With the xml4rpg product the as400 side will definitely be in
on time thank goodness. I had three webservices defined and coded in
two days. It seems, in Europe anyway, they are cutting rates and
pressuring big time. Hey that is what happens in this type of economy.

Of course I am using tn5250j and what stands out so far is the key
mapping with a java 6 vm. I guess this was a problem with 5 as well
correct?

I activated the svn support out on SF so it should now be available.

Kenneth, great to hear your back.

My client is still using TN on Windows and Linux everyday and have pretty
abandoned Client access all together with the exception of Ops Nav of course.

Everyone there is very happy with it and I have a bunch of feature request/bug
reports I have to get to on the mailing list.

To everyone on the list, is there collective time to maybe kick start the TN
project again? I know of a few bug report I need to file as well as a few
feature request that I have been getting. There has been some Java specific
issues and the such. I know there was talk of a code clean up and a 1.0 release
in the past. Just a thought.

Thanks!

Ok, just had a first look

The cvs repository is available via rsync:
rsync -av tn5250j.cvs.sourceforge.net::cvsroot/tn5250j/* .

A first run with cvs2svn didn't show any problems (need to check eol
style and binaries) and produced a (compressed) 27M file.

Kenneth, if you enable subversion support at SF we could try an import
tomorrow.
