Why using APR_HOOK_MIDDLE for translate_name :

Why not using APR_HOOK_FIRST:

BTW, there is not so many Apache 2 modules using translate in

tomcat-jk.jar

2004-03-03 Thread Ramon Pons
Hi all,

I don't know exactly if my question should be in this list (sorry if not)

I need the tomcat-jk.jar compiled with the bug fixed about passing X509
certificate from mod_jk to a Tomcat application

http://nagoya.apache.org/bugzilla/showattachment.cgi?attach_id=5541

I can't compile Tomcat (i am a little newbie), and it is extremly urgent
to solve this problem in our project.
Anycase, please, send me if you know where I can found it.

Tahnk you very much.

 Henri,

It is hard to say. It all depends on how changing jk hook
priorities impact other apache modules. I am convinced that
the best solution for this will not be found until we have
an extensive test suite to test use of mod_jk 1/2 with other
modules. So if a change is made we can make sure use of
mod_jk with other modules hasn't been broken.

Jean-Frederic Clere send us a link to a french site where the
Apache specialist speaking about jk2 and rewrite used jk2
in FIRST but indicating that rewrite is the precedent.

 Why using APR_HOOK_MIDDLE for translate_name :
 - It will be like mod_jk.
 - It works for me with mod_dav and mod_rewrite (fixes 21549 and
 21546).

 Why not using APR_HOOK_FIRST:
 - It does not work with mod_dav.

BTW: Mod_dav.c does not have translate_name I use a Location to
 get DAV
activated on the needed URL. Core.c use APR_HOOK_REALLY_LAST and
 mod_rewrite
APR_HOOK_FIRST so I do not understand why 21546 get fixed by using
 APR_HOOK_MIDDLE.

Ok, so I revert to APR_HOOK_MIDDLE for now, it will be the same as jk

Should I close the corresponding bugs?

No... At least not yet that is still not working correctly :-((

JF, will you works on moving translate in storage as Justin suggested ?

Yes. I have started moving it and I will go on doing it after lunch.

Glenn, what do you think of that ?

deflate - apache tomcat - ie configuration - problem

2004-03-03 Thread EBRARD Loic
Title: deflate - apache tomcat - ie configuration - problem

I found a problem with the Apache deflate module, which occurs depending on the options of IE5.5 you have selected.
Config:

- apache 2.0.48
- mod_jk_1.2.5_2.0.47.dll
- mod_deflate.so
- tomcat 4.1.24

With module deflate loaded on apache and IE Temporary Internet files Settings Check for newer versions of stored pages set to Never, there is no problem.

With module deflate loaded on apache and IE Temporary Internet files Settings Check for newer versions of stored pages set to any other option than Never, there is a problem, some servlets do not work, it always seems to be in the _javascript_ of my pages .

Without module deflate loaded on apache and IE Temporary Internet files Settings Check for newer versions of stored pages set to any options, there is no problem.

As any one come across this sort of problem ? any pointers are welcome ?

Thanks a lot

Subject: NTLM and Post request

Dear folks,
Im using NTLM authentication to authenticate the user in the intranet.
After authenticating the user the Post request stops working.
The content-length in the request is zero.
I have also tried by adding NTLM authentication module to apache, Im
facing the same problem in this case also.

I read the faq/mailing list section in Tomcat and many folks
suggested to
use JCIFS but I don't want to use JCIFS.
Is there any way to make the post request work?

 Im using Apache 1.3,Tomcat 4.0.

Ganesh

exact, could you test your IE config against documents servers by Apache
+ mod_deflate (ie images, or php scripts), and after that against
Tomcat 4.1.x (using its own http connector).

Also are you using proxy somewhere ?

This works for me with the current Tomcat. The message would indicate that the
webapp doesn't have a /WEB-INF/web.xml.

RE: deflate - apache tomcat - ie configuration - problem

2004-03-03 Thread Shapira, Yoav

Hi,

whitout apache there is no problem... but without apache there is no
module_deflate in action too :)

It sounds like mod_deflate is a questionable choice for you anyways
since you shouldn't compress JavaScript.

By the way, this is an inappropriate forum for this question: please use
the tomcat-user mailing list for this discussion.

Thanks,

Yoav Shapira

Title: RE: deflate - apache tomcat - ie configuration - problem

the only way to make disapear this feature using mod_deflate is not to compress html files...
and that is not possible...
same problem if i don't compress _javascript_...

my httpd.conf is :
LoadModule deflate_module modules/mod_deflate.so

AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/html
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/xml
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/css
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/plain
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/_javascript_
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE application/x-_javascript_
DeflateFilterNote Input instream

So i don't compress image and php...

NTLM and Post request

2004-03-03 Thread mganesh
Dear folks,
Im using NTLM authentication to authenticate the user in the intranet.
After authenticating the user the Post request stops working.
The content-length in the request is zero.
I have also tried by adding NTLM authentication module to apache, Im facing the same
problem in this case also.

I read the faq/mailing list section in Tomcat and many folks suggested to use JCIFS
but I don't want to use JCIFS.
Is there any way to make the post request work?

 Im using Apache 1.3,Tomcat 4.0.

Regards
Ganesh

Oh, *now* I understand the context to Henri's question. Here's a
suggestion. And, no, I don't think changing the priority to MIDDLE (or
LAST) will solve the problem either.

I think you want to remove the translate_name hook entirely and fold
that functionality into the map_to_storage hook. mod_jk isn't
translating or modifying r-filename, but instead mapping the path (as
determined by all of the other modules) to storage. At the point when
translate_name is called, we don't have any idea what path the JSP is
going to be at. PR 21546 is causing a problem because mod_jk2 is
interfering with the other modules from performing their translation of
r-filename.

I think the missing module in J-F Clere's analysis of 21546 is
mod_alias. mod_alias also has a MIDDLE translate name hook. So, if you
switch mod_jk2 to MIDDLE, mod_alias's hook would run before mod_jk2's
translate name hook. Since translate_name is a RUN_FIRST hook, it then
won't execute mod_jk2's translate name hook. Yet, this would allow
mod_dav to operate properly on non-GET/POST requests as the filename
will be the 'correct' one which is resolvable by mod_dav_fs.

But, what happens when mod_jk's translate hook doesn't run but the Alias
hook does? As I read the mod_jk2 code, I don't see how the uriEnv will
be setup properly in the r-request_config vector. I have a hunch that
mod_jk2 will subsequently pass on all requests when an Alias in effect
for that location space if you use MIDDLE for mod_jk2. That's bad.

By moving the code currently in mod_jk2's translate_name to the
map_to_storage looks like the correct solution to me. My hunch is that
should work then...
Thanks Justin, great analysis, I'll take a look at this.

To resume you :

- remove translate

- move translate code to map_storage

Did I understand correctly ?
