Tomcat Bugs?

2005-10-01 Thread Schalk Neethling

Greetings All

Does anyone know of bugs in the 5.5.9 release of Tomcat with regards to
recompiling Jsp's or incorrectly send SQL statements?

The reason I ask is, I do some development of Jsp's in Dreamweaver and
use the synchronization utility to synchronize my local files with the
files within Tomcat. Now, after having done this and refreshing the
page, or triggering the link, Tomcat still runs the old file. If I
delete everything from the work directory then it recompiles the Jsp and
shows the new Jsp.

Also, I have a .jsp file used a resource for SQL queries. Once a page is
run that calls one of these SQL queries, I continually get a SQL error
that some column was not found. However, if I run the exact same query
directly on the SQL server or via phpMyAdmin, the query executes
successfully without any error.

Any aware of these issues? Or is there something else that might be
causing these problems? Thank you in advance.

When i try to execute my jsp page i have error message with code 404: myfile (file not fund).
Should anyone know where to place my xml file so that with my jsp bean i access to it?
I run my bean in standalone mode, all turn well. There is something in my servlet context configuration that i don't know.
Any suggestion is welcome.

Re: Jave Server Pages

To answer your question:
Your directory structure should be as follows:
TOMCAT_ROOT/webapps/
-- myapp [ All of your usual web files including
html and JSP's should go here.
- WEB-INF
--- classes [ Compiled java classes ]
--- lib [ All you jars ]
--- src [ Source code ]
--- web.xml

The code you showed below will not really tell you whether your JSP is
working or not. Instead write the following code:

html
body
%
JspWriter out = new JspWriter();
out.print(Hello World);
%
/body
/html

web.xml since J2EE 1.4

2004-11-16 Thread Schalk Neethling
Greetings
Can someone please point me to where I can learn the changes that
happened to web.xml since J2EE 1.4. Up to now I have had no trouble but,
when trying to configure the taglibs for Struts using the web.xml I am
getting parser errors. It seems to have a problem with the taglib
directive. Should I stay with servlet 2.3 and validating against the DTD
instead of the new Schema?

Servlet.service error

2004-08-12 Thread Schalk Neethling
Hey there all!
I am running Tomcat 5.0.25 on Windows XP. I have set-up a .jsp in my
web.xml so that I can all it as I do servlets:

servlet
servlet-namefooter/servlet-name
  jsp-file/secure/includes/footer.jsp/jsp-file
/servlet
servlet-mapping
servlet-namefooter/servlet-name
url-pattern*.footer/url-pattern
/servlet-mapping
When I call a page that includes this .jsp as follows:
jsp:include page=process.footer flush=true /
I get the following error in the Tomcat log:
2004-08-12 14:43:41 ApplicationDispatcher[/lawillustrated]
Servlet.service() for servlet footer threw exception
org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP

No Java compiler was found to compile the generated source for the JSP.
This can usually be solved by copying manually $JAVA_HOME/lib/tools.jar
from the JDK
to the common/lib directory of the Tomcat server, followed by a Tomcat
restart.
If using an alternate Java compiler, please check its installation and
access path.

I did copy the tools.jar from my Java sdk to common/lib and also have
set my Environment Variables to my JAVA_HOME/lib/ for both user and
system. Restarted my system as well as Tomcat. Still get exactly the
same result. All other .jsp's that are not mapped in the web.xml work
fine without any errors. Any idea as to what is going wrong? Thanks!

Re: Some JK2 ideas

2004-07-19 Thread Schalk Neethling
With all the talk about the new jk, I hope of the main focuses will be
to make the integration between Tomcat and Apache a lot easier. I find
that there are very few hosting companies out there that are able to do
this correctly and as such do not support Java/JSP/Servlets. It has come
to a point where some web projects had to be changed to PHP instead of
Java because the client just can not find a host or, the prices for
those who do are extremely high.

I really love the Java language and everything it offers and hope that
there can be a way to make integration and management of a Tomcat/Apache
environment easier for both sys admin and developers.

Maybe the best response to this would be to update the docs and say
tomcat IIS 6 is not supported, plese contact microsoft and ask them
to do it. They have plenty of developers and money - they could send
a check to Andy and Henri, or do it themself :-)

Hey why not? :)
I've just mailed a couple of guys who I /think/ are among the lead IIS
developers with the subject IIS / Apache entente cordial; let's see
what happens...

RE: how's the jsp page compile into servlet

2003-09-01 Thread Schalk
Manish

As far as I know, and anyone please correct me on this if I am wrong, this
is handled by the internal compiler within Tomcat and the .class is placed
within web application scope.

You can register a .jsp to act as a servlet and call it as if it is one. For
instance on our website we include our footer.jsp like this.

First add the following code to your web.xml:
servlet
servlet-namefooter/servlet-name
descriptionCopyright footer for www.volume4.co.za/description
jsp-file/includes/footer.jsp/jsp-file
 /servlet

You can now call it from anywhere within your webapps simply as
/servlet/footer, for instance jsp:include page=/servlet/footer
flush=true/

Hope this helps.

RE: Problems in deploying servlets

2003-06-12 Thread Schalk

Sumod

Basically what I would suggest is as follows:
Go into the webapps directory of Tomcat
Create a directory called myFirstApp
Inside this directory create the WEB-INF directory
Inside the WEB-INF create the directories classes and lib
Place your compiled HelloWorld.class file in the classes folder.

Stop and Start Tomcat
Open your browser
Type: http://localhost:8080/myFirstApp/servlet/HelloWorld

If you want to learn more about deploying webapps you can read up on the
web.xml as well as creating a .war file. These two combined makes
depoyment much simpler and gives you a lot more options.

Subject: Tomcat and IIS problem

Hi

I have successfully installed and configured tomcat to run with IIS. I'm
having a problem running the manager and admin contexts from IIS, but
they
work if I use http://localhost:8080/(admin)(manager). I have added the
URI's
to workers.properties, and I have set up the context in the server.xml.

Admin won't load, and manager presents a login prompt (the IE type). I
have
a user set up in tomcat-users.xml, which works when I log into manager
through http://localhost:8080/manager/html but the same user credentials
don't work from the IIS served http://localhost/manager/html. It seems
to be
trying to use NT Authentication.

Has anyone had a similar problem?

Thanks

Dominic
