about the socket error

tomcat-dev,hi!
        I have the tomcat is version 3.1 with own webserver,with the request 'rise,we 
can find the socket error and stop automic when want to restart tomcat,it can not 
restart,we should restart the computer and then we can start the tomcat again.I hear 
that should modify the HttpResponseAdapter.java.Can you tell me the reason,and  how to 
patch it.thanks
