want to download and see if I like it' perspective, Tomcat does
suffer a bit, IMO. Also in the available solutions (which I think are great learning
tools and in some cases complete solutions).
Maybe I just don't know where to look.

no need for
the LInux unless you just prefer it. The Java on OSX works great.
Gotta say... MySQL/Tomcat/Apache on OSX rocks as a development
platform... and I use Golive which can link right into the
databases... fun stuff. Some configuration, though.

a very hard time justifying the effort.
Use CSS to define elements, and use few classes and spans and
you should be able to be quite compatible.
JTOTTOMH, you could probably write (fairly complex) taglibs for
this... blech.

structure inside and out, it may be hard for those making the
docs to realize what someone coming in with a Tomcat tabla rasa.

convenience but ignored by the backend.

'gnutar' instead of 'tar' to decompress the .tar.gz file. It
of weeks. Ugh!
You know, the Apple instructions use 'tar' and not 'gnutar'...
boy the time adding three letters could have saved me!

the instructions at the Apple site (and I
think I succeeded in following the instructions), but no
/examples. I also tried to set it up for Apache and get the same
error as I get at :8080.
