As you hinted, I installed SDK 1.4.0 and things changed. With the modified startup.bat, DOS windows does not close now, and reports that the %tomcathome%\lib directory is missing.
With the original startup.bat, no complains about \lib, but the new Tomcat window which normaly opens, closes immediately. Tomcat on my machine (which works fine) does not have a \lib. > Rename the files to txt, else a lot of people can't see them..... > Sorry about that.
