I can confirm that tc4.1.x from CVS works nice with the nightly
binaries.. i still dont know of 4.1.7.. so this problem will be fixed in
a upcoming tomcat release for sure..

in short my question is, how can I call tomcat and get it to return

There is no provision in the spec for this kind of calls to container,
the way you are doing things seems correct to me.

So the solution is to change the user of the service to anyone with
desktop access, you can try first with Administrator, and later when
you see it working create a dedicated user, with lower rights, for the
task of owning and running tomcat..

Isapi_redirector.dll is loaded by inetinfo.exe, that's the IISAdmin

This is a Known problem in 4.0.1 + IIS integration..
Maybe fixed for 4.0.2... btw. It's solved in tc3.3..

Much more simply: try Tomcat 3.3 and up, they solve almost all

I known problem...well better to say it's a known non problem..
IE closes sockets on HTTP/1.0 connections when see the last-modified
header...
It's solved on 3.3 ( next Milestone will caught it ) and in 4.0 as it
has a complete HTTP/1.1 implementation for standalone use...
