I wish U succeed in every aspect of life.
Give everything Ur best Shot and Believe in Ur self.

have fun yaar throught the year..

take care

wish me the same .

Say byee to 2003 with these few lines

  When the door of happiness closes, another opens;
  but often times we look so long at the
  closed door that we don't see the one
  which has been opened for us.

  Don't go for looks; they can deceive.
  Don't go for wealth; even that fades away.
  Go for someone who makes you smile,
  because it takes only a smile to
  make a dark day seem bright.
  Find the one that makes your heart smile.

  Dream what you want to dream;
  go where you want to go;
  be what you want to be,
  because you have only one life
  and one chance to do all the things
  you want to do.

  Howzz that for a new year wish!!!

 Puneet,

 You've made things harder for yourself by defining a
 separate
 engine in your server.xml, it's much easier to reuse
 an existing engine.

 2 things I see wrong with your scenario.

 1. When you refer to a servlet, you don't append
 .class to the end of
 the servlet name. For instance, you wrote:

 http://localhost:80/examples/servlet/abc.class

 which should be:

 http://localhost:80/examples/servlet/abc

 2. You are going through port 80 which is where a
 normal webserver would
 be listening. Tomcat listens on port 8080 by
 default.  Unless you are
 fronting Tomcat with another web server, such as
 Apache, and using a web
 connector (and have the configuration for the web
 connector correct for
 each context you are accessing) you will not be able
 to ask Tomcat to serve
 up .jsp's or servlets.

 Try your connection like this:

 http://localhost:8080/examples/servlet/abc

 That will go directly to Tomcat rather than pass
 through a web server with
 a connector. If this works, then your issue is
 narrowed down to
 configuring your web connector properly. If it
 doesn't work, then we can
 look at other issues such as installing Tomcat in a
 path with spaces in the
 directory names.

 Note: I'm assuming that a class, which is a
 servlet, exists in the default
 package (eg... WEB-INF/classes) and is named
 abc.class for the above link
 to work.

 1) How do you know the tomcat script is picking up

 2) 4.0.4 is beta. I'd suggest starting out with a

 4.0.3.

 3) Is there any output at all to the tomcat logs,

 so, what's the output?

 4) Are you trying to run it as a service, or from

well today i stuck..so badly..
Argentina lost..and ...i'm not solving a simple
..error

i might be ...doing some silly mistake

well ...

I made new app directory by name sachar
and new virtual host by name puneet

i'm not able to access the servlets from this , giving
me error 404 ..not avaliable , the resourse is not
avaliable.

my directory structure is like

and i'm calling this by

servlet mapping is also done in web.xml file)

and plz look at my server.xml file

1.1)IS CATALINA_BASE is something related to different
context in a single container?

2)what is ANT_HOME ?
2.1) Do we have to install something additional to
tomcat ? (apart jdk.13.x series)

2.2) What are u doing at ur place with Tomact 3.x
series ?

3) where is httpd.conf/tomcat.conf file ?

4) Where to add new context in tomcat?

5) what to write in build.xml and it is needed to

Admin tomcat 4.03

2002-05-18 Thread puneet sachar

Hi ,

 thanx a lot for ur suppport

 Actually i was using tomcat for a while, but i
always
 use to get things ready made for me , now i want to
do
 administration myself ..

 Tell me

 1) I have set TOMCAT_HOME as d:\TOMCAT4.0 (the
 directory where i have installed tomcat and added
the
 jar files in autoexec.bat (I'm With WIN Me version )
 do ia hev to add CATLINA_HOME also
 and what should i write in that .

 2) Explain what you mean by these lines written in
 documentaion

 There are two techniques by which Tomcat 4.0 can be
 started:

 * Via an environment variable:
   - Set an environment variable CATALINA_HOME to the
 path of the directory
 into which you have installed Tomcat 4.0.
   - Execute the shell command:

   %CATALINA_HOME%\bin\startup
 (Windows)

 what % mean here ,

 3) what is CATALINA_BASE and where we use this ...?

 4)do we have to make web.xml everytime we made a new
 application say i have one application name
 bank_payment and in there all my programming in sub
 packages and all
 i) where do i placed my new web.xml file , if it is
 needed to creat and what all we write in web.xml
 (As all packages like examples ,manager have their
own
 web-INF directory and web.xml)
 it means we have to make these files explictly

 5) then what abt EJB where we keep thoes

 6) And beans will be simple java classes so they
will
 be place smae where ur servlest files are?

 7)where do i place .xml files if i want to use xml
in
 my project in place of HTML and what abt the DTD
where
 we place them .

 8) IS it possible we have 2 application and say both
 have index.html
 a) when we write http://localhost:8080 (Enter) -- we
 get application  correspondion to it
 b) and http://localhost:8081 (enter)- we second
 application's index.html

 Means just by changing the port address i have 2
 application running on same instance
 and can call the 2nd application through 1st.

my boss has hacked my account also he is so rich i
can't thought of logging a fir against him

 if Application for client B need some
files present in Context for client A

***
In this we don't have to rewrite the different package
names just follow the same convention naming as
followed by every application
Just the application directory will be different

The DNS server itself redirects the request to
corresponding application

3)Using HTTP/1.1 Connector component

The HTTP/1.1 Connector component is a Connector
implementation that supports the HTTP/1.1 protocol. It
enables Catalina to function as a stand-alone web
server, in addition to its ability to execute servlets
and serve JSP pages.

 A particular instance of this component listens for
connections on a configured TCP/IP port number on the
server. One or more such connectors can be configured,
each forwarding requests to a particular Container for
processing.

This Connector is configured by including a
Connector element in conf/server.xml configuration
file, nested inside the Server element.

Default --

 Defining the Tomcat Stand-Alone Service

Service name=Tomcat-Standalone
Connector
className=org.apache.catalina.connector.http.HttpConnector
port=8080 minProcessors=5 maxProcessors=75
acceptCount=10 debug=0 /

Define an application for client A Connector on port
8000

Connector
className=org.apache.catalina.connector.http.HttpConnector
port=8000 minProcessors=5 maxProcessors=75
acceptCount=10 debug=0 /

Followed by
ENGINE ELEMENT

An Engine represents the entry point (within Catalina)
that processes every request. The Engine
implementation for Tomcat stand alone analyzes the
HTTP headers included with the request, and passes
them on to the appropriate Host (virtual host).

Defining the top level container in our container
hierarchy

Engine name=Standalone
defaultHost=www.clientA.com debug=0

Host name=www.clientA.com debug=0
appBase=webapps
and then followed by

Tomcat Context

Context path=/ANY DRIVE docBase=examples
debug=0 reloadable=true
and then
/Context
/Host
/Engine
/Service closing the tags

Like what we used to do incase of websphere 3.0
Changes made to host file in winnt of NT machine and
httpd.config in websphere 3.0 root file

Document root -c:\abc
Classpath -c:/abc/servlets
Classpath in use -c:/abc/servlets
Web Application name : Puneet
Virtual Host : default host
Web Application Web Path - /Puneet
Full path in use -/Puneet

Thus www.puneet.com the server will map to resource
located at c:/abc for html/jsp and c:/abc/servlets for
java file

Good Morning here is the some solutions that I feel
can be done, Tomcat is totally new server for me this
I 'm able to collect from the documentations and
asking the views of other developers

If any of the above solutions you feel cannot be done
on tomcat or cannot be done with the application you
are making do let me …so that I have an idea what
exact we are looking for and I'm able to concentrate
on that logic

But I feel the best way is to
***
We can simply package and deploy each set of classes
as a separate web application with it's own context
(e.g. a, b, and c). Under each context is a
WEB-INF/lib directory that would hold the jar file
that contains the correct versions of all the classes
used by that clients application.

This way, when your user requests a URL from context
'a', the servlet, jsp, bean, ... code that handles the
request will be loaded from the jar file in the 'a'
context. Similarly for the the other contexts.

This will all run under one JVM, but each context will
be loaded via a different class loader.

If have also asked the tomcat technical team for the
solutions, their mail is still awaited and as soon
I'll get that mail I'll fwd it to you also.
