you have to re-do it from scratch by implementing the
interface again?
I want everything the Datasource Realm provides,
except when the authentication succeeds, I want to
update the user db table to indicate the date/time
this occurred.

Yup - as long as the methods your extending are not declared as final. Just
make sure your class lives in the /server/ classloader.

Just thought about it having a session doesn't
mean you are successfully logged in, does it? The
moment you open the browser and gets directed to the
logon JSP, you have a session, right? That does not
mean you have logged in successfully... or what am I
missing here?
