I just don't understand physics it seemsas how can there be that much energy savings if so much heat is produced and must be dissipated? Here in the VI when the power company increased the rates to over $40 per KWH everyone bought the cheap CFL bulbs after the energy office made a big

Well the thought behind the Power Company encouraging conservation of energy use was to delay or eliminate the need for additional base load generation construction. That is the most costly thing for a utillity to have to build is new generation. Cecil K5DL - Original Message - From:

Hi Herb, Don't feel bad...I think I can top that. Here in the much-vaunted LAND OF NO---i.e. the province of Ontario---our powers-that-be recently brought-in universal smart power meters, followed almost immediately by ...pay per time of use variable prices for kilowatt hours, i.e. if you do

Hello, am glad to read and write here, on the topband reflector. I am reading carefully, all around, and happy to share with you a bit of my 160M happiness. The propagation here, these days, seems reasonable, expecially beaming to east/south east... but the band sounds semi desert, without

I've never know of a utillity to give away power...usually when the power flows to another utillity on the grid it is billed at a wholesale rate...I'm not sure stock holders would allow a give away.(of course this may be government owned generation) Certainly any excess capacity should be

The Home Depot $9.99 lamps do not emit a lot of radiation but cause noise when located near my FM and 160m radios.   And the large heatsink located above the base gets quite hot to the touch.    I bought a new LED lamp in original packing,  and had it delivered to  Ed Hare (RFI guru) at ARRL

I had previously mentioned that I have three LED lamps and hadn't noticed any noise. Looking (listening) more closely, I have noticed noise on two of them -- the Sylvania lamps purchased from Lowes. One of them is pretty bad. I also mentioned that the bulbs were very hot, too hot to handle. Of

It's probably worth noting that while the LED will run on DC *at full intensity*, many/most of the controllers dim the light using PWM so in that case there is a square wave of varying duty cycle driving the LED. Human eyeballs integrate the pulses and perceive the light level as being brighter or

Hi Jim et al, There is a third way, often overlooked. The radiated power is rectified - at least to some degree by lousy connections, i e aluminium fences to Al poles, which then reradiate. Look for those sources and poor connections as well. 73 By the way, 160 is still open Len SM7BIC
