G'day
Tom wrote a number of comments about my nice results with a 3/8 wave
inverted-L fed against a K2AV folded counterpoise back on 26 August. I went
into hospital a few days later for a routine operation but ended up with
pneumonia and then influenza, so never got the chance to reply.
I have a hand held wand-like device meant for finding nails etc in wood that
worked OK as long as the radials weren't too deep in the ground. It is
awkward for this kind of operation since it is only about 18 inches long. I
had a pretty good idea where the radials were to begin with and
I run a 500' BOG that shows excellent directivity and sure doesnt need a
preamp. Velocity factor is determined by the ground beneath it and since
mine is over rock only 8-24 down it might as well be bare rock.
As Ive said on here several times when others like to claim only a specific
length

Well, I finally got it up. The FCP is a little saggy on the three-legged
side, (probably due to the weight of those snazzy 6 Johnson ceramic
insulators that I've been hoarding for just such a project) and with a T
vertical section - 55' up and a three wire S-shaped
You can take an AM signal generator, feed the radial against ground, and use a
little portable AM Broadcast radio along the ground to track the wire. It will
work even if the wires are quite deep.

is a compromise. It's sad that some cannot see that forest for the trees.

Comments like that are expected, but are totally out of place in technical
discussions. No one said the antenna does not work or cannot work, only that
some of the claims obviously reach far beyond
I will be travelling in JA land in October and on Oct 21 will meet with some
160M JA operators in Tokyo.
They have asked me to bring a CD with hi-res pictures of Canadian and American
160M operators and stations.
I am asking for input to this project so if you can send me some photos I will
I think that as long as we can agree that just because someone thinks a
particular antenna works better than some other antenna they have had, and
no rigorous testing under scientifically controlled conditions has been
done, and that the opinion is just an opinion and nothing more, then we will
