Vaseline will work keeps moisture out, non conductive. You can cover a lot
of surface. Over years it drys out gets crusty. Vaseline is made of lanolin
mostly, I believe.
Neverseizes or anitseize compound found in any hardware store, Works very
well drys out some but keeps working for years.
Noted a sudden closure on the 160 meter band late last night local EST time.
Science is finding more about the upper atmosphere to ionosphere discharge.
Started wondering if one had temporarily neutralized 160 meter reflective
properties
PBS has recorded recent activity of sprites.

Possibly even earlier than that. I spent a small part of my misspent youth
(~1961) in a TV repair shop. The

I wish you would NOT do this. Vaseline is a Petroleum based product and has
nothing to do with Lanolin, which a a natural animal based Wax. The
unnecessary broadcast of errors like this make me wonder if anything you say
is fact-based.

Silicone dielectric compound (grease) should not be used as a lubricant.
It's actually somewhat abrasive.
Hoping to extend its life, I once tried that stuff on a high-quality
silver-plated rotary wafer switch on a piece of industrial machinery at the
last place I worked. The switch actually
Tnx to all who replied to my question about RG8X and baluns. Much

Bruce, I can't comment on the sprites, but I did observe the
disappearance of what had been several, fairly strong EU sigs here
around 0445Z and commented to W5XZ about it on the Low Band Chat. It
seemed that there was a sudden drop-off, if not total disappearance, of
all signals from EU.
I saw that show on PBS last night. I don't recall anything in it about
sprites affecting radio propagation, but it was one of the most fascinating
NOVA episodes that I have ever seen. I just sat there riveted to the TV
with my eyes bugging out and my mouth open.

On Fri,
Mike,
In one part of the NOVA program, dialog was the airglow confirms that
sprites interact with the ionosphere
There were other references as to sprites into ionosphere
Most of our DX propagation is via the ionosphere. A sprite propagation
change maybe possible, but is not proven.
I agree. Some high-speed images of that airglow fanning out and apparently
actually coupling to the top of the ionosphere were quite intriguing.
That part near the end about that guy monitoring the earth's 8 Hz Schumann
resonance was also fascinating. Maybe some Topbander with more time than I

FYI Billthe use of medical grade petroleum jelly was recommended
in ON4UN's LBDXing book. That doesn't always make it right, but
personally,
I've been using the jelly for years to keep water out of connectors and
it works very well. The tube of the jelly works great as an applicator

PLEASE-- go back and read what I wrote. Please. I have no argument at all
with Vaseline (Petroleum Jelly) for any use you feel comfortable with.
My complaint was with the false association of Vaseline with Lanolin as if
it were fact. I have no argument with Lanolin either, I use it

absolute must see to truly get a tiny window into science we never
got to see in the way they portray it. Making stuff cleaner,
