I love that slow drift. Frequency stability is boring and overrated!

Thanks Joe.
I have been using WSJT since 2001 and cringe every time I hear it called a
QRP mode.
3.) He was running way way too much power. I never operate with more
than 30 watts {its a low power mode.. I worked VK5BC with 30w on TB
try that with CW)
JT65 and JT9 are *not*
Hi Mike ,
Thanks for sharing that video.
Crystal controlled QRP from the west coast is quite a challenge!
Have you thought about doing something about that headphone
cord under your arm?

I want to put this to rest with just a few more comments.
While we call these digital modes, they are really baseband audio
transmissions run through SSB transmitters. They are subject to all the

I have an idea, it may be far fetched, but I think a good one none the

Yes, it really is just baseband audio into an SSB transmitter. And some of
the new rigs that run that process audio through A/D converters to digitize
if for DSP are just asking for trouble.
I guess I'm an old fart, but I suspect that a 12AX7 triode audio preamp,
with its 3/2 power-law transfer
I think we could encourage use of ARRL band plan, by not complaining when
digital modes show up in 1800-1810.

Well what a nice New Years' surprise. I worked V5/DL3DXX last Friday during
the RAC contest with the new doublet I put up in the snow squall.
Now confirmed for #108 on Top Band. I wish it was always this easy...well on
second thought, if it was it wouldn't be Top Band!
Thanks Dietmar!

Thanks Mike. Interesting video. It brings back memories of working
ARRL 160 with a straight key back in the 1980s. I couldn't do much
with my right arm for days after that.

this STEW was awful, i was using a home made key out of a board and a

More and more are starting to do so with the Freescale modules - they
are certainly *not* linear at 1200W from a single module. Maybe a
pair will handle 1500W and be linear - I haven't seen a full set of
parameters.
