NowI just read a couple of posts on the K5P operation where it was
intimated that Tom, W8JUI, was leaving this reflector!!
Had that been confirmed??
T bad - dang...technical prowess should be cultivated and
encouraged to keep posting away.friggin' shame if true!

I'm afraid so, Jim. :-(
I almost sent an email to Tom asking him to reconsider, but then I figured
that anything we said wouldn't bring him back. Not as long as ... well, I'd
rather not discuss this here anymore.
You can read what led up to it at
I was super pleased to work Ken K4ZW on 160 this morning while he is in XZ as
XZ4ZW.
Ken had been trying to work North America for three days when the band
finally opened a bit
and several West coast stations are in the log. Best signals seem to be 1 hour
before sunrise here.
Look for him
My friend Rich K7ZV just corrected me on Kens call. I been up at 3 a.m. for
3 days.
His call is XW4ZW not XZ4. Sorry guys for the typo. Back to sleep.

Pleasantly surprised to be able to snag K5P on 160 meters this morning.
Conditions were marginal but improving when I worked him. QSO confirmed on
Club Log within 2 hours. What a super operation!
The operator was K9CT - a superb operator with excellent ears.

All I know is this - I just read the "lead up" to Tom's self-removal from
the group and it didn't take me long to identify a couple of asshats that
owe him an apology. Larry? Check. Misquoting is unethical and you knew it
when you did it. Roger? You betcha. A snarky "Bye, Tom" is all you had to
After several years on TB, I sort of understand that from my QTH in
Michigan, the Caribbean, and Europe are best heard in the evening.
The Pacific and Asia come in best in the morning.
When will the VP8 DXpedition come in the best?
Should I be looking at LP, SP, or no path?
Are there
Remember one US cent is worth nearly 2 Canadian cents. We'll monitor 80 and
160 tonight as you suggest. Thanks for the info.

I wasn't born in Saskatchewan, but I got here as soon as I could.

My two cents (probably worth one cent):
You best shot to hear
I am not a regular contributor to the top band ...more of a lurker.
I have heard W8JI is leaving the group, which is really a shame since I
valued his posts and the info I gained from them.
Apparently there has been some material that has hit the fan that I am not
aware of since I have
K5P was surprisingly solid on 1.821.5 with just a wire attached to one of the
rain gutter downspouts this morning in eastern KS around local sunrise.
Motivated me to put up a wire inverted L today, will see what tomorrow brings.

I see now why my original post, from the 18th, didn't show up. I sent it to
the wrong address. It's below.
I can report that the beverage is working very well! Only thing I can figure
is that it fills in a gap to the south, where the 4 square pattern falls off.
Last night the band was
My two cents (probably worth one cent):
You best shot to hear VP8 will be at their sunrise. I think that is around
0600Z - so I think listening for an hour before that would be smart. When
I worked ZD7 - I heard no thing except right at their sunrise. My VP8SGP
QSO on 160 meters was on Jan
I just don't understand it. The lynch mob and the Social Justice Warriors
are back again! What is with you folks that for what ever reason, you like
kicking folks in the balls. It happens on this list over and over again.
It's time for you folks to grow up.
And for you folks who love to 'shoot
I agree and if that happens to me, then it's my stupidity that got me
there.

My first ham license was dated January 19, 1937. I was 14 years old, a
sophomore in high school in Kingsville, Texas. Parts from defunct Atwater
Kent AM receivers (all radios in those days were AM-no FM yet) to build a
two tube (types 57 and 56) regenerative receiver and a TNT (type 45 tube)
Doug -- you're like the cops on the DX frequency...you just did exactly what
you complained about. In my opinion Tom is a great guy and one of the most
knowledgeable anywhere. I always read Tom's posts...while I've learned to
not waste my time with others. I'll miss seeing Tom on the reflector.

As am I. Tom leaving will be part of the end of learning about Ham
Radio as I've always known it to be. When the knowledge bases are
Congtats Mike.
They had great sigs this AM. Heard Jack VE1ZZ work them around 1025 utc
after I shovelled the driveway in the dawn.
Hoping to see more posts from W8JI. I'm not remotely qualified to
rank his substantial expertise and contributions to this group.

Hate to say it but when he left the Amps group he never looked back...I expect
the same here.
There is a dedicated group of haters here...small but they are here. I would
imagine their contributions to the group otherwise are insignificant (as are
mine) and will now probably find little joy
For what it's worth, I would be in favor of a little less tolerance of bad
behavior. I'm talking about folks who repeatedly make personal attacks. There
is a point at which it should not be tolerated. If folks can't behave like
"gentlemen" on the Gentlemen's Band Reflector" they should be

They had a great signal on 160 this AM. Worked at 1145Z here in SE PA.
There was a nice SR peak here on 80M also. Worked at 1228Z.

Just wondering what provisions have been made if a drunk operator gets on
the remote station and wreaks havoc or if a remote transmitter malfunctions
and starts spewing garbage?

I'll say a little about this subject - and then hope we can just focus on
K5P and VP8STI posts.
1. I will continue to try and not approve each and every post. It slows
things way down.
2. I ask everyone to be a bit more selective in what they post. Compose
your message - does it really move
I thought the moderator had asked that we move on from this topic.
