Sorry, it was not aimed at KH6LC, as he has very efficient antennas, but was
to help all those struggling with more recent antenna problems.

If I was KH6LC I would be rather offended by that comment Bruce. What does
it Really mean? Perhaps not what the words really say? KH6LC has more hard work
in his station than many.

Bruce,
A modelling program would surely be
wonderful to work with. I can say though,
I called him twice, he heard me on my
first call and sent back 1J ?, I sent my
call again and he had it. I was stunned.

Sometimes someone will get lucky and get excellent 160 meter transmitting and
receiving the first try.
But most have to work at it with isolated directional receiving antenna (s),
and transmitting antenna(s)
de-tuned while receiving. A antenna modeling program also helps.

Yes indeed, whatever he's using is
working. He copied me with my 5W signal
from Connecticut, 10 miles from Rhode
Island. Just got the LOTW today.
That is some more than excellent copy on
their part for 160M.

Hi Bob,
You may have missed one important detail. In 2014 I moved to NW Rockingham
County, Virginia.
However, during my 30+ years on topband from my small city lot in Fresno, I
worked 186 countries. One glorious evening in February - can't remember the
year - I worked 17 EU.
It took me until Novemb
Wow! 33 EU stations. That’s an incredible accomplishment!
I made exactly 0 EU contacts - didn’t even hear a single one. Did manage to
work a few Asiatic Russian stations and the usual Pacific stations from my 1/4
city lot in San Jose, California.

Topbanders,
In spite of constant heavy QRN throughout the contest, I had a personal best
for the number of EU worked in one evening/night. Before this weekend my
best was 19 EU worked in a local evening / night. This weekend, Saturday
evening from to 0514 when I went to bed, I worked 33 EU st
Nope, KH6LC doesn't have good ears, they have GREAT ears. Worked them from MI
with 5 watts and it wasn't the first time.

Thanks again everyone. I've read all your suggestions and advise and
although I won't be able to make some of the more difficult (or impossible
at my site) changes there are a few things I'm willing to try.
I read the w0btu.com webpage and I'm not really that far off from that
setup. Minus that tu
Worked Hawaii from NE Pennsylvania with 100 watts. Still smiling from that
one. Thanks KH6LC good ears and great patience. Too many people give up
after one or two calls.
Hope everyone has a Happy and Healthy New Year.

Hello Guy,
a very interesting evaluation of the 1000MP. Your diagnosis coincides
with my observations with the K3. I did not own an FT-1000MP, but I was
using my K3 for listening on the very crowded 160 meter band in the CQ
160 Contest a few years ago and noted the same thing. I was playing
