Hi Topband friend,
Sorry for the late post.
Bill was a special friend to me.
In the 1970s, when he was still a K4GSU, we did QSO on 80m CW almost
every day in winter. After that, we were able to QSO many times even on
160m.
In 1981, I traveled by car around United States to visit my low
I am very sad to hear that John ON4UN passed away.
As a person who also loves the Low band and Contests like him,
I would like to write a memory of him.
I participated in the DX Pediction in 1985 as a Low band CW operator
of Kingman Reef K9AJ/KH5K and Palmyra Island W0RLX/KH5.

Conditions today were very quiet here in Japan also.
This evening I worked AA1K, N4VN, W1XX and N4XD.
Jon's signal was stably received for nearly an hour.
QSO with John W1XX is very difficult even in good winter DX season,
and it is surprising that it can be worked at this time.

Thanks info. Dan,
That is very sad news for me too.
He and I had been 160m friends for nearly 50 years.
I just QSO with him in the Stew Perry Contest in March
and I can't believe he's gone.
I'm really sad that I can't hear his signal anymore.
RIP Herb.

That's a very good question.

Gary and all,
DXing on the Edge, The Thrill of 160 Meters which was wrote by Jeff K1ZM
is a very good book to know the history about 160m.
It describes Stew W1BB very in detail.
And you can read about Stew by his Web site.

Also you can see 160Meter News issued by W1BB
