Roger, Quote "I've never felt that the Sunspot Cycle has much affect on Topband” From my location in VE6, at 51 deg. north (similar to yours Roger), there is a VERY strong correlation with DX conditions and the lower solar cycle. I have been a very active 160m DXer for over 25 years. I am QRV

Ron, Indeed the band has been alive with EU for the last 3 evenings. The QRN was elevated last night, but many signals on the QSB peaks were good copy. Here in VE6 last night I logged OK1CF, DF2PY, SM5EDX, OK1DOT, LY7M, OZ4MM, OK4WW, OH0Z, ON4GPE and PE5T. The night before 11 EU were logged,

Yesterday I was listening to Dave work those EU, but I heard nothing. Last night however, I came to the radio at around 340z to shut things down and had good copy OK1DOT calling CQ with a strong signal. (my RBN skimmer decoded him too) I was very surprised when IC8DAK answered my CQ, followed

Great stuff Bob, This morning I “heard” your QSO with Kevin, except VK6LW was a solid 579, and yet your signal was zero copy. Nothing. Not even a trace on my waterfall from your 5w. Pretty cool. That’s 3,000 km per watt. Pretty strong DX for both you and Kevin. Steve, ve6wz > On Sep 22,

On August 24 I had my first EU QSO with Pat ON7PQ. Since then the band has been open most nights as long as the geo-mag activity is low enough. In the last few weeks I have had 42 CW QSO with Europe on 160m. Usually between 3 to 6 QSOs per evening. The band has even opened up to more south

Last night from 04:30z till 05:38z 17 EU made it into the VE6WZ log. After answering Mike F5IN’s very loud CQ at around 0400z, I moved to 1821.8 and called CQ. Fortunately, the very high QRN from the midwest storm front was off the side of the NE Beverage and 9 circle array. Pointing straight

Topband: EU opening-G3YRO

2018-04-01 Thread Steve Babcock
Last night just before going to bed, I checked RBN and noticed that my VE6WZ skimmer spotted G3YRO on 1827 at 0513z. I thought it may have been a “rouge” spot (sometimes RBN spots get through when domestic callers reply using the DX call), so I didn't bother to check the radio. Just before
