The VK6's were managing some qso's with USA, but for me it was impossible.
So only 5 qso's for me in total, so I disconnected everything and that
was it for me, until next time.

As Luke VK3HJ has stated, the QRN was bad here in VK3 and probably all
over VK, including at VK6LW, I expect.
But I pushed through the QRN pain barrier and even called CQ test a few
times, but no replies, not even from locals or ZL's.
So I ended up only calling any strong signals heard and
Hello Top Band enthusiasts.
This year we had extreme QRN for most of the contest, throughout
Australia, so when signals were workable, it was still almost impossible
to make qso's.
We only had good prop to JA and USA / VE / Europe was almost non
existent here.
Even though prop to JA was

I also had many qso's on Top Band with Svein. He was also very obliging
to give me a report when it seemed no one was hearing me.

Yes I agree, and the problem I also found was that even though the
pacific Island dxpedition has Top Band ssb on their band plan, when I
have asked the cw op to try an ssb qso, when their cw qso rate is close
to zero, they usually reply "sorry, no microphone" or "sorry, others are
sleeping".

Tree, that was VE7BS, BOB (now SK) and VK3ZL, BOB (now also SK), with
almost all qso's using SSB.
We, ve7bs, vk3zl (previously vk3bvs), including myself vk3io (previously

1983 and 2010, back in the "good old day's&quo

reasonable to say, I would not benefit from such a device or the Yaesu

Hi all Top Banders.
This year's contest was almost a total wipe out as far as VK was
concerned, due to summer storms on the east coast and the usual topical
storms up north and a cyclone off the west coast made it impossible.
I did hear a few good signals from North America during our

With regards to VK0M on 160m, I am sure this will be difficult as I have
been told that the big wire antennas that were on the island (Vee beam
and Rhombics) have been taken down.
I have also been told by Kevin and Trevor that putting up any big
antenna would not be permitted.
So maybe a
I have been reading this thread of comments with interest and here are
some of my observations.
From down under, in VK3. during this contest so far, I have been very
surprised at the good signals heard when compared to the recent pre
contest days. That is to say, not great, but good to NA in
