Mark,
I know what you mean about 8 foot ground rods. I bought a hammer drill from
Harbor Freight and use it to drive the ground rods now. Piece of cake.
They are on sale quite often. Harbor Freight has sales quite often,
actually
all the time, hihi.

I hope tonights Pre-Stew provides some good participation.
I am experimenting with a receiving BOG and so far havent heard very
much on 160.
I cant tell if the BOG is not doing very well or just lack of sigs. I
know the condx arent
optimum yet which is most of the problem (I hope) Hopefully
The ongoing dearth of activity seems to have hit especially hard this Fall, but
I have been noticing it for several years. Even when a major contest is on,
there is usually enough empty space left over for non-contesters to operate
comfortably.
Maybe another problem that we might be reluctant

Here it is Friday night, with relatively little QRN, but only a couple of

Reading this got me to thinking. I'm one of those "contestors" that
seem generally despised, especially on 80 and 160 meters. I maintain a
fairly decent station and listen as often as I can, especially on 160. .

There's a lot of truth in what Jorge says. At 2 AM EDT (The timestamp
of Don's post) I'm in the sack unless 160 has been open the evening before

Atlantic. When I get up at night to hit the head I typically check the

Conditions here in Michigan on 80/160 were poor last night. The signals
were weak and band noise was high. I managed to work Mali on 40, and
Hungary on 80, but it was a battle. South America was extremely poor on 80
for some reason.

Some of us are looking at the contest calendar for next 7 consecutive
weekends (CQWWSSB; ARRLSSCW; WAERTTY; ARRLB; CQWWCW; ARRL160M; ARRL10M)
and spending some quality time with our families in advance! I will be on
full-bore for the Pre-Stew but that's only one night so no big deal.

I agree Don - hopefully tomorrow night's Pre-Stew will be much
different. QRN is at winter levels here in Arizona, yet TB is silent.

Anyone get an error from the robot about the log date format?
I used N1MM and it seems in order. I emailed Tree.

160 was almost as quiet as a graveyard last night.
I heard and repeatedly called N7GP, NO3M and KV4FZ but received no
answers.
After an hour I went to bed.

Hi all,
I expected more from the event. Conditions were not bad altogether but very
little activity. Some frustration from calling but not being heard. The best DX
of the night - w1aw/kl7 ran by Kevin, kl7ky. Heard but not worked: K1LT, N5IR,
WD8DSB, LU5YF.

I had the same frustration calling you at one point and not being heard. I
guess the noise levels and propagation are not constant! Thanks for trying!

Alex I called you a few times too, but no luck. Only worked 26 stations
during the contest as lightning activity was pretty high in the US which
caused lots of QRN so I just kept waking up
I was there, gents. Worked both of you
