Here's an idea that I wonder if anyone has ever tried. Being an impulse, the
lightning crash is essentially the same on all nearby frequencies. Would it be
possible to tune a second receiver to an empty frequency near 160 and subtract
that audio from the audio on the desired frequency, or
This isn't necessarily a plug, and I have no pecuniary interest.
Thankfully the K3 has an adjustable audio limiter, and also a hi/lo gain
setting, for those of us who use these techniques listening thru static
crashes. Previous rigs occasionally pasted my ears good no matter how
adjusted.

From the YB8Y website. The transmitting antenna is wire dipole hang on a
coconut tree. The receiving antenna is a DHDL (TX3A Double Half-Delta Loop).
This band is lead and equipped by YB0LOW with an Electcraft K3 + Emtron DX3.

UR RST IS ...
Perhaps they are gone now, but was hearing them daily with up to 599 signals
on top band and 80 meters, worked both YC0LOW/8 and YB8Y.
Not many calling them on top band, just a few JAs that I could hear.
So the antennas were working. At least to this QTH. Louder than any other
YB that I have

A comment on active noise cancelling headsets. The Heil Quiet Phone
Pro is a very different animal than the Bose headsets. I have a Heil
QPP and on a scale of 5 it gets a zero. Mine oscillated right out of
the box and was returned to Heil for repair, but then had a high
amplitude noise
2. Switch to 80M DXing. After a while you can hear how strong the signals get
once they reach a certain level switch to 160M and start listening.
I find here many times that 80 meter QRN is worse than 160 on the same
day, same time,
no idea why that is, but is very often true here, so I
