I was active as VP8GAV from Antarctica and made a few QSOs on 160, vast
majority in 1992. I just sorted my log by band and it breaks down like
this :
Total 207
EU94
NA79
JA2
ZL1
AF 6
The rest are SA.

At one point this week there were six sunspot groups visible on the
sun. Five were in the sun's southern hemisphere!
This suggests that we may have reached (or close to) the peak of this
cycle. Or at least the first of a double peak. This is ten months or
so earlier than predicted.

Hello Gavin
Yes, I see your Antarctic call VP8GAV in my top band log on October 19,
1992.
Also the Russian Antarctic Base, 4K1AFM in my October 1991 top band log.
I also see several Qs with HF0POL during these times. Believe this one
counted as S Shetland.

Para: Bill McDowell;
I have received word that Mike Elliot, KQ0B, passed away Wednesday afternoon. I
have not received anyother
information.
In the last few years, Mike was very active on 160. He has always been very
active on 80 thru 10 meters.
Our prayers go out to his family.

Our (K6XT, XYL W0MOE) condolences to Mike's family. I really enjoyed
chasing TB DX and being on chat with Mike. RIP OM.

G'day
It has been interesting reading about the QSOs with Antarctica. Probably my
most best 160m QSO ever was on 9 July 1999, when, along with Mike VK6HD, I
worked Mike Fokin, R1AND from Novolazarevskaya Base, Antarctica, just before
sunrise here.
