Topband: Strange behaviour of radial systems

I have a north-south switchable 21m high phased pair for 80m with 1/8 lambda spacing. It is optimised for 3520 kHz, the feed -Christman-system was made according to ON4UNs book and software. Measurements were made with a General radio bridge 1606B, oscillator and receiver. The system has a

Hi Ray I would say TX3A did balanced 160m activity and proved that it is possible to achieve using dedicated RX antenna for the location of the DX expedition, most DX expeditions does not pay attention or do not get well prepared for RX on low bands. It does not mean dedication bit the results

Kees, What else is around your verticals? Just the fact something is not resonant does not mean it isn't a problem. To my ashtonishment, vertical 1: 28-j328 Ohm and vertical 2: 12-j320 Ohm both on 1825 kHz. The vertical with the smallest radial system has the lowest earth resistance (around

Milt, In this aspect all DXpeditions are equal. Just one comment: Having a large person expedition can yield large differences in 160m Q's compared to a two person expedition. On a two man operation, the ops must decide what band to operate at night, 30, 40, 80 or 160m. They may want to make Q's

Tom, Thanks for your reaction. At 50m distance of both verticals I have a 16m high tower with a 3 el Steppir. This tower has a radial system and is shunt-fed tuned for 80m. There is some interaction with the 2 element system on 80m. 400 Watt in this system generates less than 1 Watt in the

HC1PF was literally 5NN around 10 min before my local SR this morning. Most of the time he is 559 to 579. Seems there is many EU stations on but many suffer the same as me :-) still not in log. I guess he has an RX issue noisy band none RX antenna etc. However we cant complain about his effort.

Tom, Thanks for the details on the Z for TB. On a related matter I have been looking for comparisons between a L and a T firmly believing that a T would be better as in 65' up and 135' horizontal fed in the exact center. However there are so many TB'ers using L rather than Ts which begs the

Hi Rune, Yes, we are copying Luis in the US rather well. He has the usual RX problems of listening to the US stations in their winter while he has summer and the local QRN. He also has nearby BC stations in the high end of the band. Tonight he had a US pileup on him. It was a very quiet evening

Rick, I think it had more to do with getting something out of the shack window with the tuner inside. I also think it had more to getting the current maximum at the top of the pole. The OT's used to tell me they just taped a #47 bulb and a small loop of wire at the top and fed some power 20
