Heard Jim, K9JWV, around 0216z with good sigs, but couldn't get his
attention.
Caught Jim, K9YC, calling CQ low in the band, gave it a try and made an
easy QSO. Jim/YC's QRP sigs have been getting better the last few
contests compared to prior years as we are heading down the backside of

KV4FZ was loud about 0500 but no reply.

Enjoying the condo challenge !

The 3DA0 experience was a thriller. Just about the time I was copying
Arunas well enough to call him on Wednesday, he went QRT. Heard a few
peeps on Thursday and absolutely nothing on Friday. Tonight (Saturday) he
was an honest 459 and I was thrilled to make the contact! I'm sorry the
Very, I was listening for them. Kept working the contest but went
back & never saw a peep. I need that one on 160 too.
OTOH, I'm digging my new K3s :D

Hi Rich,
It appears they have decided to QSY away from 160 since the band is wiped
out with U.S. contest stations (working other U.S. stations that aren't
listening for DX) so a new one lost due to the contest.

Thanks for bringing that up Joel. They usually listen up 1-2. Hopeful the
SP contestants will give us that space.
Thanks,

I realize it is yet another "Stew Perry" contest but it is also the last
night that 3DA0CC/3DA0IJ will be on 160 meters. Their operating frequency
is 1820.3 so if folks could PLEASE try to avoid that area there are at
least a few of us that would appreciate it while we have one last shot at
3DA0
Hand keying with an old bug oscillator HV supply also rectified with
a Slop Jar bank (ie. electrolytic rectifiers).
Will get a late start; couple hour drive from home yet.

I eliminated the noise from my electric fence charger with a few ferrite
beads slipped over the wire near the charger. They were Amidon FB-73-801
beads. I forget the Fair-Rite part number. It was as good as unplugging it.
If I had uncooperative neighbors, I might just quietly install those beads
Thanks for all the reply's
From the questions I was ask via e-mail , I'm thinking what I have may

question but the repair doesn't happen as fast as when the meter stops

What has me puzzled, why the noise is

Hi Art,
If its any of your suspected sources you should be able to observe
spectral shape (signal strength variation vs. frequency) on a
panadapter or by simply turning the dial on your receiver.
If its a plasma TV it shouldn't present 24 hours per day, it will follow
some kind of human
I am trying to track down a similar issue. Some of it may be the neighbor's
plasma TV, but I also suspect DSL or Cable TV leakage. I have wandered
around with an FT-817 with a bcb loopstick antenna. No luck so far. My
noise has peaks in the 1823-1829 range. And, yes I hear it on both the 4sq
and
Greeting top-banders and Ed,
You could simply disconnect the elements from your Hi-Z amps at each
element. This will tell you if the noise is being generated in the system or
coming in the air.
My guess from experience something some distance from you is following your
power wires.
Good
Hi Ed,
Its very suspicious that your RFI peaks right at 1820 kHz.
Can you hear the RFI on your transmitting antenna?
Can you hear the RFI on a portable receiver placed immediately
adjacent to your 4-square elements?
With your radio set to AM mode, does the RFI sound like
white noise,
Hello Topbanders
I would like to explain my noise issue to get opinions on search and Destroy
This noise is covering the 160m band only, 80m is good ! I'm using a
HI-Z receive 4 SQ and the NW direction is as quiet can be . All other
directions are noisy with the NE being the worst , SE almost
I should be QRV this evening with my 1928 MOPA running about 19W input /
11W output. Already worked some EU stations with it (Four Square TX),
so hoping to catch some west of Rockies guys tonight.
