Hi,
This list is hosted at something called "contesting.com" but I am not
much of a contester. I only supply QSOs to people who are serious about
it. I would consider using remote receivers (I already listen to some of
them - WebSDR) but not for a contest or something like DXCC.
I am making
In my case, I don't really get going on 160M until the beginning of
November. My October is usually getting ready for CQ WW SSB and then Nov -
Feb is basically CW season for me which includes getting on 160M DXing.
I respect VY2ZM's comments on FT8 but you will never find me stooping to

Wow - lots of activity on the topband.
reflector that is...
What we need is some kind of organized event where everyone gets on the
radio for one evening to find out if the band still works or not - at least
for the CW mode that you can listen to with your ears.
Well - the Boring Amateur
For those with receiving issues (I'm not one of them)
However, a bunch of hams I know have been using these on low bands with
reasonable success.

about $32 shipped.
I have one, but I haven't had a chance to install it yet

Slightly different reason here...waiting for cleanup from remnants of Hurricane
Michael...once I get the trees cut and brush removed, I can put the radial
field back down and re-install the HiZ array.
Although I will confess I spent last season in listen-only mode, copying QRSS

It isn't just 160M
I have seen this on 10M with no sunspots. There are paths, just truly

Same thing at W5ZN except I am waiting for the second, and last, hay cutting of
the year in the fields plus our WX has not been good with lots of rain and
heavy QRN and not so gud prop into Arkansas.
All of this will improve in the next few weeks. C U then!!

I think in the last few days the lightning has died down a lot. Hurricane
Michael seems to have swept a lot of other weather systems away, at least along
the U.S. East Coast. The Intellicast map of lightning strikes in the U.S. is
almost clear, something we haven’t seen for months!

Due to this years extended summer season temperatures, many of the
(RX)antenna fields are 'not available yet'.

Many thanks for all the replies and comments, some on here, and some direct.
I guess a lot of NA stations are still suffering with QRN then . . . plus
many are Farmers, waiting to get the crops out of the fields before they put
their Topband antennas back up!

It has been asked this week why there seems to be little activity on 160m so
far this Fall season. Actually, there is PLENTY of DX activity on Topband so
far - but much of it has migrated to 1840 and is on FT8.
Last Spring, when 7Q7EI was active, I made a post commenting on FT8.
Having been in Florida in October I can assure you there is plenty of
Lightning around. I don't imagine that will die down for some weeks yet.
Fully audible here as well as in the US. Check
http://en.blitzortung.org/live_lightning_maps.php?map=30 which will remove
any guess work.
