Solid copper wire is easily damaged by movement and vibrations as anyone who
has dealt with marine, automotive, aeronautic, machinery, and several other
applications would know.
The 7 strand #14 hard drawn copper antenna wire going back 100+ years is an
example that this is nothing new.

Several lengths are over 35 years old, reused several times MF to UHF, and
pass regular sweep tests.

For monoband use, use an asynchronous transformer to go to 50 Ohms if you or
the equipment is that fussy.

The couple of K3's Ive listened to sound horrible on SSB compared to my
tweaked vintage TS-940 and TS-950SD. The TS-990 I had here for a contest
weekend (the owner had to be away on business) was phenonomal but so is the
price.
Im still waiting for a contest grade SDR.

I have a friend who doesn't like the K3 because of the SSB audio...said he
likes his FT1000D

the last bike Ive owned as moving back from IL to NH in 73 convinced me a
bike was suicide in New England.

option, NCL-2000 modified to include 160, and highly modified 75A4; along
with a D-104. Ive had all since the 60's.

It's not that long ago when everyone would be raving about the Drake R-4C
, so many pictures of top Topband Dxer's
or medium quality
with a fancy option package. A guest is running DX here within a few minutes
of sitting down.
