I had a similar experience to Ed, W0SD. Having had absolutely zero copy on
FT5ZM on 160 prior to today on my half-sloper, I had given up hope of
hearing them on 160, let alone actually work them.
Then, to my surprise, this morning they were perfect copy here in Western
Washington for almost 2
I worked XV7BM on 160 at my sunrise (about 1400z) this morning, running
about 900w, and transmitting/receiving on the same antenna, a half-sloper
off a 110' tower. He was peaking over s-9 when I worked him.
All the same facts applied to my QSO with HS0ZKX yesterday.
Now if only XZ1Z would
I have no directional capabilities (just a half-sloper), but that carrier is
so loud here in western Washington state (CN87, 15 miles NW of Seattle) that
I'm guessing it's emanating from somewhere nearby.

The carrier is 40db over s9 here, 24 hours a day. I'm just across Puget
Sound from Lynnwood, WA so that would certainly be a possible location for
the carrier's transmitter.
