I have always used an 80m inverted-vee (66.6 ft per side) with apex at
50ft at top of a yagi-free tower attached to a steel workshop and fed
with 450 ohm ladder line and shorted at the tuner in the shack to work
as a top loaded vertical (35ft is actually vertical, rest of the
feedline mostly

You should consider building the KD9SV front end saver to prevent damage to
your RX. I needed it for my FT-1000MP. Google for pdf file. Beverage will
not need a preamp.

I put a BOG down for this winters DX season on 160m and was very
impressed with it, compared to my three 550ft Beverages (NW, NE, S). I did not
have the SW direction covered, so I put up this BOG just after the ARRL 160m
contest as it's need was evident following the difficulty hearing on
I think my message was sent prematurely..sorry.As I was saying, my DXers
dream location is located only 1/2 mile from the main 550kV line from the
nuclear plant on Lake Huron to London, ON. I have NE and S Beverages that
point right at it in the winter. The only time this power line gives
Well scratch tomorow's 5AM alarm for an insurance QSO, my Feb 04 contact just
showed up. Check yours now. Also, is the 10m CW operation an addition to their
posted plan? WFWL Sure sounds legit to me (sorry, not topband

Thanks for the memories Herb.I was surprised to see you had the KV4FZ call
way back then!
I just dug out my K4IA/KC4 Navassa Island SWL QSL to VE3PE2NL (thanks Popular
Electronics!) from June 24, 1969...20m SSB 0411Z QSO with WA6ROU. Now finally
a chance for a real QSO, and on Top Band!!!
Well what a nice New Years' surprise. I worked V5/DL3DXX last Friday during
the RAC contest with the new doublet I put up in the snow squall.
Now confirmed for #108 on Top Band. I wish it was always this easy...well on
second thought, if it was it wouldn't be Top Band!
Thanks Dietmar!

Sorry to hear of the other topbanders who lost their antennas and may still be
without power! We went 58 hours with power but it came on at 2PM Tuesday and I
was able to cook the Christmas turkey yesterday. Thanks to all those intrepid
linemen. Sort of spurred me into action
Well call
Well the ice storm did a job here. My DXE 5 band hexxbeam looks like a bowl of
spaghetti...just one broken spreader tip!
My main mast that supports the 80 doublet I use for 160m and my 80m delta
loop broke in the middle and is lying on top of the steel workshop where the
main shack is. Will
Well I finally figured it out and sat waiting for 4A4A to come on at his sunset
(0130-0200Z). Waiting with baited breath with the split set 1.1 up and
antennas
tuned. So they come on and so does the Jammer! A S9 buzz saw right on his
freq. Must have been an East coast station as the only
This morning 4A4A was 10 over S9 on 80 CW at 1000Z to past 1130Z at which point
they were CQing for contacts. Got them with one call on 80 and 40 last two
mornings. No 160 this morning at all.
Is there a reason they haven't been on 160m CW during the East Coast (and VE3)
gray line from
Thanks for starting this string.
I put up my first temporary Beverage (6 deg) in November and another in late
December (280 deg - to KH6,VK), which involved struggling with an 8ft step
ladder, rebar, 8lb sledge, etc in knee deep snow. So imagine my disappointment
in hearing almost nothing! So
