Guy,
Thanks and two initial questions:
1) what are the consequences good or bad if the wire is 2 inches above the
ground?
2) any recommendations on a BOG amplifier?
Thanks
Paul

For me it is quite simple CW and SSB when I am in the shack and FT8 when I
am not. It’s the same for all bands and has actually increased my
enjoyment and access to the radio.
I don’t have the luxury to spend hours in the shack so finding out what is
being received when I am busy is a definite

Just a ‘simple’ question hopefully - How close to the ground should a BOG
be for best/good performance?
I am looking for any additional info that I can get to supplement what I
have found online already so good on the balun, wire type and termination
resistor.
My single unterminated beverage I
13 NA and VE stations the log last night which is not bad for me. Mainly
east coast but it's over the pond.
On the subject of RBN reports I usually get single digit db reports from
the main RX stations stateside except for a regular pronounced peak of an
extra 20 or more db just after sunrise
Frank,
You are ruining my plans for a Dxepidition somewhere nice for my 50th bday
in 2021.
Might as well save the money and stay at home!

You can overcome the audio mute on TX issue with the SDR Radio Console and
Server software from Simon Brown. The Console software syncs with my rig
(TS590S) using Omnirig so can mute the RX audio on TX so you don't hear
your transmitted signal. Some rewiring of the headphone cable
Nice conditions tonight here in central Scotland on CW. Plenty of local EU
plus worked 11 NA stations this evening plus a VU as well.Furthest over
being Iowa which is good for me and my furthest over the States on top band.
I am sure stations with better TX and RX than my below average
I hadn't seen it mentioned but here in NW EU the continuous dashes from
Fish Net beacons can be a pain at times.

I have found that the continuous transmission of FT8 on 160m resets my
wireless bridge back to default config.

Roger,
Friday night after midnight there was some NA/VE activity on FT8. I had
spent most of the evening on CW but had a look up at the digi section
before bed. My FT8 sigs were being recieved down in VP8 as well around a
similar time.

have room for a T even if its inverted that would be better to save
unwanted horizontal polarisation from your L.
If you need further info send me an email off ref'73 Clive GM3POI

Looking for the advice of the experienced hams for what if anything I
should do to make my 160m inverted L more efficient. Being realistic I am
limited as I have a postage stamp garden so can't really lay more radials
or change much beyond the inverted L. I guess the question is would some

Anyone else hearing the fish net drift net beacons – nothing here in Scotland
last couple of nights.
Has something changed?

It's amazing how much
I am very new on top band and only managed a handful of big guns on the
east coast on Friday night so can't really compare. I did receive a
message from the GM5A team who were on a beach with big verticals facing NA
over saltwater and they managed 143 q's into 30 states on the Friday night.
Interesting and an explanation why he doesn't respond to my calls from here in
NW Europe. I had put it down to poor RX at his end due to high local noise
which I guess is part of the reason.
Regarding SDR's I use a remote SDR situated in a nearby farmers field about 250
metres from my home
I use a Dribox and they come in three sizes. Video here:

You are not sending your section is the error - or at least the log file
doesnt know to add this. It should be N7WS 599 ( your section) AI7H 599 ID
and so on. I had a similar problem with another contest but I am not
familiar with your logging software so nit sure of a fix but you could run
a find
On a similar note can I ask about beverages touching leaves and other
vegetagian. Will this result in poor performance and if so is it
significant?

I am in that category only having put up inverted L for 160m as an
extension on my 40m quarterwave vertical recently. Receive antennas are
Wellbrook loop and a couple of 40m beverages point NE/SW on top of a 7 foot
high boundary wall. This was only put in place in the summer so yet to try
