I don't think FT8 will necessarily doom ham radio, but it could (and likely
will) change the face of DXing for awhile.
But, to me, the excitement of DXing comes from the necessary element of
uncertainty -- when the outcome remains in doubt until the final "RR, TU es

I have added DXCC ## 96-101 so far this season, running 100W into simple wire

It took awhile to get this far, and took some patience/determination from my

Seems to me the final judge in all of this is the guy who stares back at you
from the mirror every morning. There are a million ways to game the rules and
outright cheat ... even in ham radio, where the rewards for a "win" are pretty
abstract. If the guy gazing straight back at you is
I was pleased to hear/work Harry this morning at 1323 UT (about 5 minutes
before local SR) while running 100W into a "lazy L" with 32 radials --
receiving with the same antenna. The exchange was 559 both ways -- perhaps a
bit optimistic. BUT, a few minutes later, Harry's sigs briefly (90
Without taking a particular position on this issue, I have to wonder if any
consideration has been given to this contest's namesake. How, exactly, would
Stew Perry have felt about more contests (especially in his name) on Top Band?
Personally, I have no idea. I pose the question merely for
