Just wondering what provisions have been made if a drunk operator gets on the remote station and wreaks havoc or if a remote transmitter malfunctions and starts spewing garbage? 73, Roger N1RJ _ Topband Reflector Archives - http://www.contesting.com/_topband

I don't get it. WHY do you care? How does what the operators that use them do affect you? How does it affect your ability to work a station? What possible difference does it make in how you use this hobby? If the operators beat you in a contest so what? YOU know what you did and how you did it and should take pride in YOUR success. For me, this is a HOBBY. It should be fun! I find enjoyment in my operating successes. If someone with a better station, like W8JI or W4ZV, work DX I can't hear I don't get upset with them. I wonder how I can improve MY station to be better. Ron N4XD _ Topband Reflector Archives - http://www.contesting.com/_topband

Re: Topband: RHR
Well, if I work 100 countries using a low antenna and QRP, I'm proud of hanging that DXCC certificate on my wall, and telling any guest in my shack how I got it. How about if ARRL just issues a DXCC certificate to every ham who has a license? How would that make you feel if your guest says "oh yeah, I got one of those DXCC thingys in the mail along with my first QST magazine." I don't have a problem with the big guys running gigantic antennas and KW stations - I say well done. But to live (for example) on the west coast and use a remote station in Maine, and then get your DXCC certificate based on those contacts ALONG WITH those made from the west coast - it just lowers the "quality" of the award. If you live in an "antenna restricted" or prohibited QTH, well life is tough. I am in one of those areas and still manage to get stealth / invisible antennas put up. Do I have a 150 foot tower, five mile long Beverages, 2 KW amp? No. Can I work DX with my wire antennas? Sure. I won't ever be on the Honor Roll, and I'm OK with that - there are a lot of other ways to enjoy this hobby, and I mean A LOT. My feeling is that this award should be governed by a rule similar to Worked All States - all contacts must be worked from a station or stations no more than 50 miles from each other. Anyway, I've heard these arguments about RHR for months and am pretty sick of it all. Yes, I can hit the delete key and set up an email rule for deleting the messages, but it does get tiring, as the subject line morphs now and then. I also subscribe to the Elecraft reflector and I can tell you that threads like this would have been ended long ago by the moderators. It should be a place to exchange information related to equipment, propagation, antennas, etc. - not a continual gripe session about perceived cheating or not cheating. Good grief - give it a rest! Just a few comments in case you guys gone to sleep! The other day Tree, N6TR/7 said he had to QRT to fix some changes to his remote control of his base station. Hope you managed Tree and I understand you need it during all BSNS travel flights, so far so good. If, and when, I would ever dream of spending a few bucks renting a RHR station, e.g. W7XX to give me another DXCC that would be an entirely different case. Paying money to rent another ham*s setup would, at least to me, mean I would be paying for a service which would be out of my control. It would add no joy working another and new DXCC using somebody else equipment. (Just a comment: and no bragging: I do not need K1N on 160 or any other low band. Furthermore I cannot understand the minds of those DQRM guys that have showed up even on 160. Back to basics guys and please do make QSO:s the old fashioned way. GL with K1N or anyone else and leave at least 160 free from foolishness. Len SM7BIC _ Topband Reflector Archives - http://www.contesting.com/_topband

With all due respect, such complaints are really kinda sad. Considering the long term implications, this topic is one of the more important ones discussed here in a long time -- and there continue to be new ideas aired this afternoon. I agree, Larry..however, I doubt if anyone is refereeing or taking good notes as to separating wheat from chaffand, THEN, where does the accumulated, condensed and vetted idea(s) (hopefully not more than a couple) go In short - we all need a plan as to how to get the ideas winnowed down and on to someone who with influence, throw or weightdon't see no stinkin' plan(s) being tossed out for consumption and digestion... 72, Jim Rodenkirch K9JWV From: w...@sbcglobal.net To: topband@contesting.com Date: Thu, 5 Feb 2015 16:08:48 -0600 Subject: Re: Topband: RHR and remote topic With all due respect, such complaints are really kinda sad. Good evening All. If someone wants to do it this way, well why not. I am on the top of the Honor-Roll 379 confrmd and all were worked within a 15 mile area. I have 192 confirmed on 160. DXCC on 7 Bands. All from a 90 X 140 foot lot. Only RX antenna on 160 is a homemade loop, Xmit antenna on RX is S9+10dB noise. We have lived here for 47 years and love our house. First license was class B in 1950 and then class A in 1951. Extra in 1968. 73 Price W0RI ps. I need Navassa onlu on 40 and 17 meters, so I won't call them. _ Topband Reflector Archives - http://www.contesting.com/_topband
