 When trying to connect to an onion service I receive a certificate error,
 which is expected. However, I had a hard time trying to figure out what to
 do next, and the main reason was that I didn't notice the "Add Exception"
 option (See image). I'm not sure if this depends on my system's
 configuration, so I'm creating a ticket anyways.

 A while back Google offered a security feature to disallow logins from
 applications using login technology deemed "less secure" (see [1] and
 [2]).  Apparently, Tor Messenger doesn't use what Google deems "secure"
 login technology (for the record, neither does Adium).

 It would be good if Tor Messenger supported the "secure" method of login,
 or otherwise explained why it would be acceptable to turn "less secure
 authentication" on in Google's configuration.  GTalk is widely used, and
 it would be beneficial to support it in its most secure configuration.

 The sha256sums file of nightly builds is currently signed as clearsign in
 the file sha256sums.txt.asc.

 In the builds, the sha256sums.txt has since been renamed to sha256sums-
 unsigned-build.txt (ticket #15864), and the signature should be detached.

 I will attach a patch to fix that.

 I've started doing this port in a branch called `bug3199_redux` in my
 public repository, based on current master and Ryman's code.  Nothing in
 it has been refactored yet, but I believe I've taken care of all the notes
 above.

 For what it's worth: we should also refactor this to use monotonic time,
 not time(NULL).

 Alright, time to close this unwieldy ticket. Thanks to everyone who
 followed along! I created the follow-up bugs #17505, #17506, #17507,
 #17508 and #17509 to track the remaining issues with our ASan builds.

 We investigated SoftBound CETS, too, but were unable to get it to compile
 Firefox even with the help of its designers. Alas, it is unusable at the
 moment.

 The Tor Messenger is intended to help anonymize IM metadata. For contacts
 to remain anonymous, they must create accounts with usernames which are
 not associated with their known identities. This creates a usability
 problem because all of your contacts' usernames may be unrecognizable
 gibberish.

 The natural response is to set an alias for your contacts so you can
 remember who they are. These aliases are stored server-side. This means
 that even if you do everything right, send messages only with both OTR and
 Tor, and pick a username that can't be traced back to you, your contacts
 could still easily and even accidentally reveal your identity to the
 server, which could be compromised or compelled to provide this data.

 The Tor Messenger should add storage of contact aliases in the client and
 disable sending of those aliases to servers.

 Having LSan enabled Tor Browser is crashing on shutdown. It seems the
 reason for this is that Mozilla code is kicking in causing the crash as it
 assumes the shutdown is dead. We should investigate what the reason for
 the long delay is.

 Notes on the design:
   * Multi-statement macros should get wrapped in `STMT_BEGIN` and
 `STMT_END`.
   * Instead of exit(0), use tor_assert(0) for bugs.
*  `INCREMENT_DELTA_AND_TEST` is IMO a problematic interface -- having
 to get the `id` field correct is a very fragile.
* Having relative times and absolute times _both_ be possible return
 types from event functions is also fragile IMO.
* I'm not sure I completely understand what `run_scheduled_events` is
 doing any more -- it seems like we'd be better off finding a way to kill
 it off entirely.  I bet we can do so more easily with the refactoring that
 has already happened in `run_scheduled_events()` in the master branch.

 Notes on the patch set:
* Needs tests!  :)

 Notes on the code movement:
* our best strategy for merging this patch right now is probably to
 copy the infrastructure patches, clean 'em up, test 'em, and then re-do
 the code movement parts one at a time, since there has been a lot of code
 drift in run_scheduled_events() since this patch was first written.
* with that in mind I'm not going to review the code movement piece of
 this. :)

 There should be a way to disable the "Open with" option in the download
 dialog since it is not working (and hence confusing) when sandboxing (e.g.
 AppArmor) prevents the Tor Browser from starting external applications.

 Name subject to change, but for now I'm following the shining example set
 by the IETF and calling it `obfsNG`.  I will likely rename it to `obfs6`
 come deployment time (`obfs5` if skipping a version will confuse users.

 Current planned changes:
  * Key exchange/handshake will use Ring-LWE + Ed25519 (authentication),
 instead of Curve25519/Elligator2 + ntor.
  * Link crypto to likely use Poly1305 + ChaCha20 in a better designed
 framing format than the SipHash-2-4 + Poly1305/XSalsa20 abomination used
 by obfs4.
  * Inline padding negotiation to simplify bridge line formatting.

 Benefits:
  * Slightly easier to use, with a slightly shorter Bridge line.
  * Indistinguishability of the key exchange is a property of the key
 exchange primitive used, rather than something separate that needs care
 when using a la Elligator2.
  * More future-proofing by adding flexibility to padding.

 Downsides:
  * Ring-LWE is really new, and the implementation was ported to Go by some
 random sketchoid.

 Tried to "establish a track record of using those services" like Mike
 Hearn said: I connected to my gmail account using Tor Browser, gave the
 code that I got by SMS, was connected there. But it didn't worked for Tor
 Messenger.
