So, 40px works well for you, I can use that as my default for width on
the sides... I use 0 (which means fit everything) so it looks rather odd.
However with my experimentation using smaller sizes cut off words.
I might post a bug for JWM to see if I can get text under buttons when
it the panel is oriented on the side.
That is probably the best fix
Can you run
xrandr | grep '*'
So I can see your display geometry.

Further to this the following settings seem to work better

HEIGHT WIDTH
TOP 32 0
BOTTOM 32 0
LEFT500 40
RIGHT 500 40

for left / right, the issue may be that I have a netbook and
thereofre a 10" screen is not ideal for placing the panel on the left
or right. So this could be the cause of some of my issues.

If people can test on larger screens 14" + and then report back to you.

However I'll experiment more with settings. The issue seems to be
when at the top / bottom it says (Icon: Text) so when at the side it
still has icon: text so the panel needs to be wide enough from the
side to fit it in,

Essentially this is fixed, could be more down to my screen size. But
either way, the panel can be set up to display on the side.

Ah yes, it is working better now, I have added a section under the
trouble-shooting chapter to deal with common problems anyway and added
a section on updating the system.

Hi Paul,
Ali controls the website and is rarely around so I am not sure that this
can be fixed any time soon.
Sorry...
I can add more old ISO items... however there are occasional issues with
Phill's server and I have removed some of the older ISO files to keep
space requirements down

P.S. I fixed your issue (mostly) and you can update.  There is a bit of
quirk to it, because I can either make the panel cut off words (if set
to the side) OR make the icons too large (if set to fit everything)
So right now it is set to fit everything, and will look rather odd
sometimes... sorry...
Users can tweak it by changing the width/height stuff and removing
labels, etc...
But for now this is probably the best thing I can do, without tweaking
things in pretty extreme ways that will still produce results some
people wont like.
If you have any better ideas about it please let me know.
