There are dozens of humanitarian-focused projects, some in unlikely
organizations (and conversely, some great organizations which do fine
without GSoC ironically have many GSoC projects in pursuit of private,
for-profit goals -- The R Project for Statistical Computing for
example, has been filled with high-frequency trading projects for
years now)
